My guinea pig keeps me up all night!

I recently adopted a 1 year and 7 month year old long haired guinea piggie. Her name is Midge, and she squeaks all night long. Is there anything I can do to keep her quiet at night? I was up at 3 AM and couldn't fall back asleep because of her If more information will help, she has trouble seeing because of cataracts in both eyes. (I don't know what caused them, but the vet assured that they wont affect her besides bad eyesight.) She also lives in the same cage as my other piggie, Mooka, who is very quiet and good at nights. however, they are being separated until Midge gets more adjusted. I think the reason why she does this is because she is just a vocal pig, but I'd really like some sleep, so any ideas on how to keep her quiet would be very appreciated. thanks!

She could be looking for her friend. Why did you separate them? How long had they been living together prior to separation?

I have to agree with the above..So like she is calling for her friend..When I had to sister piggies and I separate them for one to one contact with me the other would squeak like nuts untill I but the other back..

Midge came home on Friday. I separated the two because Mooka was being a little aggressive with Midge. I do allow them time to interact, and they are separated in a way that they can sniff each other and look at each other. Thanks!

Also the separation is only temporary, for about a week or so

Them being aggressive is normal. They need to establish their roles. If there is no blood shed or really severe injuries they should be kept together and not separated again.

Read Guinea Pigs Social Life -- the introductions section is about halfway down.

Guinea pigs are not nocturnal animals -- they are usually asleep at night. Midge will adjust far more quickly with a friend than she will by herself, and what you're doing to her is actually not a kind thing to do.

Unless one of them is biting the other one to the point of drawing blood, or is harassing the other to the point that it can't eat or is losing weight, then introduce them and let them be. They'll work it out.

Thanks for the help @bpatters , I am very new to guinea pigs, having just gotten my first one a couple weeks ago, I'm was just doing what I thought was best for her I'll put them together tomorrow just in case, I need my sleep tonight! :-) I'll post pigtures soon!!

I also might try a nightlight, if she has trouble seeing maybe that would help her. I also have had luck with putting a sheet over my cage, blocks out some of the light and helps them settle down for a little bit.

How big is their cage? If it's not large enough they will most likely fight.

They have a CC cage which is about 2.5 ft by 3.75 ft, which I bought from this sites store They seem to have plenty of space.
Thanks beachgurl, I am actually trying putting a blanket on their cage tonight, fingers crossed that midge will be silent! :-) The nightlight is a good idea too, I'll keep it in mind!

I have the same problem, with my two girls. They sleep in the same room as me and all night they sqeak if i move even just a little bit. I'm not sure what they could possibily want in the middle of the night!

What room do you keep them in? If they're in your bedroom, take them out of there and keep them in a room where there's a lot of activity during the day, like a living room or family room.

Mine do it time to time all i do is make a sound they don't like and they seem to stop..I also have an air purafire going in the room that block soom of the sound they make..

I've considered that, but the only options are in my bedroom (where i spend most of my time) or in the basement. I had them in the basement or a while but didn't like it cause they were so far from me.

I'd never keep them in a basement. I keep mine in my dining room. They are kitty corner from my computer and can all see the fridge. I have an L shaped living-dining room so there's always a lot of activity in there.

I don't keep them in the basement anymore, and our basement is just like every other floor in our house, so they're wasn't any problems accept that they were far away from me. They get lots of activity because besides school i am usually in my room.
