Would This Cage Accessory Be Safe?
Hello, I was surfing through Etsy and stumbled upon this:
small rat hamster gerbil bed by rachelschell on Etsy
I crochet myself, and was wondering if making something like this would be safe, if it has been crocheted very tightly together? Thanks!

I don't think it should be a problem, but you might want to make it a little rounder

Hmm, I'm not sure. I've heard about piggies getting their nails caught in items like this.

Re: Would This Cage Accessory Be Safe?
I personally would not recommend this cage accessory. I know my Snickies would chew, chew, and chew on this! Since it is made of yarn, the strands chewed off could become wrapped around your piggy's intestines, and cause major problems. I try to stick to 100% edible or at least mostly edible toys for him. Hope this helps!

Definitely not safe. Yarn is easily ingested and could cause an intestinal blockage. Fleece is the only safe material for rodents (especially for rats + mice who are bigger chewers). We do use cotton on the outside of cavy beds but if you notice any lose strands or chewed areas you should remove the item from the cage.

I would never put anything knit or crocheted in my cage. They can tear a nail or get a leg caught in it. They can also break a tooth on it if they chew it and it gets stuck around a tooth.
