Hi, I found these in my bag of Sweet Meadow Timothy Hay.
Does anyone know what they are?
Is it safe for my boys to eat?

I can't tell what it is but I wouldn't give it to them. Does the bag of hay look fine otherwise? I'd e mail them.
Which cut of Timothy hay was it? 2nd cut tends to have more buds on them. They look like hay stem buds to me.
Those look more like weed pods to me than stem buds from timothy. Here is a picture of timothy seed buds:
Hay is for Horses | Horseman Magazine
The picture is very small to identify the pods themselves..
Are they clover heads? If so, they'd be pinkish and they are fine ... clover is often found in Timothy hay.
I looked up a picture online and it may be. I took a closer picture of it.

It looks more orange than pink, but has the same shape of petals as the one I saw online.
Thanks for the info. I was gonna be super sore with throwing away 2 big bags of Sweet Meadow.

Alright, now I can see what they are. I'm half blind.![]()
I'm holding a piece of clover that looks just the same.. Your pigs will love you as clover is a favorite treat. Actually, I cut and dried my own clover last summer and give it as a treat a couple of times a week.
Yes, that looks like clover to me too![]()
I use Sweet Meadow Hay also, but only for about two months now. My piggies love those dried clovers and sometimes dandelions that you can find in their hay. Some piggies like them and some don't care for it. Let us know how your piggies like it. You did the right thing by checking first. I never give my piggies anything new until I check it out first.
That does look like a clover. Which type of hay did you get. I got the guinea grab the first time I ordered.
I like watching your piggies on ustream, they are such cuties!
Sorry, double post.
I got the timothy hay and the sweet meadow hay. I did the guinea pig grab as well. My boys are not thrilled with the timothy hay pellets. But I know they are better than the Kaytee brand so they are just gonna have to get used to it.
I don't like the sweet meadow hay. I think it is what is making my boys have fishy smelling breath. Don't know why that would be the case but when I stop giving it to them the smell stops.
They love the timothy hay though.
