What do you do?
What do you guys do if you are going to a friends house for dinner? If you are with a group of meat eaters, you can't exactly expect them to make a separate dinner for you, so what do you do? Eat before you go? Make an exception for the night?

Re: What do you do?
I'm not a vegetarian, but I saw this and wanted to comment. As someone who loves to cook, I ALWAYS make separate dinners for my vegetarian friends. For example, if I'm making lasagna, I will make a separate vegetable one for them. Last time I made a wild mushroom one - it was delish! I wouldn't invite someone to dinner and not expect them to eat - and if you've been a vegetarian for a while, eating meat can actually make you sick, as your body seems to "forget" how to process it. I've actually got a vegetarian friend coming to stay for 10 days this summer, so I'll need to dig out my recipes!

I don't go to dinner at a meat eaters house that often. If I do they usually make me something different however it does happen. I usually try to find a side-dish that is vegetarian like salad, bread or something I can eat. You could offer to bring something and make that dish vegetarian. I have actually skipped dinner and just eaten dessert because everything else had meat and then eaten something healthy when I got home.

All my family/friends eats meat. Whenever I go to their house I: A, don't eat. B, just eat the side dish(like brocolli, etc) or C sometimes, they are really nice and make some meat-free food for dinner.

Call the hostess well ahead of the dinner and say you are vegetarian and ask if YOU can bring a dish to share. I'd not expect her to make a separate entree for you. Bring along something that does not compete with her meal. Perhaps ask ahead what you can bring - eg: pasta salad, green salad, veggie casserole, etc.
