Hey guys, some of you might remember me as the one who was agonizing on adopting from a shelter and stuff. Well, I found a piggie to adopt about 2 weeks ago, filed an application for him, got approved to adopt him, and finally - after 2 weeks - bought him home today! He is the sweetest little furball ever.
His name is Galileo and according to his petfinder.com profile, he's about 15 months old. I might change his name but I'm still not sure yet. This is his petfinder.com profile:
Adoptable Guinea Pig: Galileo: Petfinder
Isn't he the most adorable thing ever?! So I bought my lone piggie Hurley today to the rescue (about 1 hour subway ride and 1hour 15 minutes bus ride from Times Square into NJ where the rescue's owner's husband drove my boyfriend and me to their house where the guinea pigs were being kept) for introductions with Galileo. Galileo had previously been given a health check when he came into the shelter so hence the reason why I bought Hurley to be introduced to him right then and there. The lady Carla was a very nice woman and very attentive, answering all my questions when I asked. When I put Hurley in, there was about an hour of ongoing humping. As Hurley is the submissive one, at first he didn't struggle and just let Galileo hump him. But then he started running away and protesting. It was pretty cute but I was worried that he might not like all that constant humping. Still, after awhile, Hurley just essentially ignored Galileo and went on to eating the hay and pellets in the cage,! Then Carla put the igloo in and once Hurley found the entrance after running around it for a bit, he went inside to hide. Galileo tried going in but he didn't force his way in when Hurley told him not to. So Galileo circled round and round the igloo until finally, he just stretched out on the hay and just zonked out. So adorable!
I did look at their other guinea pigs, two of them in particular - Kojak and One-Eyed Jack. Carla said that One Eyed Jack seemed to really like me because he wasn't running away and actually let me pet him constantly. She said she knew because he always ran away from her, hehe. Call me the guinea pig whisperer.

In any case, I agreed to take Galileo home and Carla was happy, I was happy, and so were Galileo and Hurley. I took them home in my Super Pet Carrier, Carla gave them some hay and lettuce, dandelion greens, and cilantro, and I was set. Hurley was still being humped from time to time but I guess after awhile, they established their boundaries so Galileo stayed on his side when he couldn't go to Hurley's side. Hehe, I never knew that my baby Hurley was so assertive in his demands, haha. He always seemed like such a pushover.
Then when I came back home, I took them out and placed them side by side each other. They stayed like that for 15 minutes, then Hurley faced the other side away from me. About 2 minutes later, Galileo turned his little bum towards me too. Silly babies!
I took a lot of pigtures but I have to rummage through my luggage for the memory card reader first. Pigtures definitely soon to come!=)
I was thinking of renaming him because for me at least, pronouncing Galileo is such a mouthful. Darwin sounds like a good name but it seems like a lot of piggies have that name. I want something unique. Any suggestions?
