Most people on here (including the mods) are very closed minded. If someone wants to buy a pig from a pet store who the heck are you to tell them they can't? And tell them they're wrong for doing it?

On another thread about someone getting a guinea pig from a store, (which all of you probably know about) I was told I was being rude and that I have 'poor taste' just because another member was telling me I didn't know what I was talking about when I very well thought I did. They didn't get a lecture, so why did I? Everyone else can give their point and tell me I'm wrong but if I do it back then I'M the one who breaks the rules. Whatever, this is really ridiculous.
Everyone on here just agrees with the mods so they wont get a big lecture about guinea pig care, when most people here will agree with me about most-all of what I have said, but they wont admit it.

No one here really gives constructive criticism, all they do is bash on other people for doing the 'wrong' thing. They're not trying to help, they're trying to make the person feel bad for making the 'wrong' choice.

Jazlyn, I consider you friend. This comment HIGHLY offensive to me. My grandpapa and grandmama were brutally tortured in concentration camp. My great grandparents died there. The Holocaust is nothing to use in jest. Please never say this thing again.

Also, I personal view the rude people as the members who come on PRO RESCUE board and brag about pet store. As I said before, that's like slap and spit in face for rescuer.

This is a pro-rescue, pro-adoption board. It has been made perfectly clear on many occasions that buying from petstores is not encouraged, yet people still like to talk about how they did it knowing what the beliefs of the board are.

What do they think is going to happen on a pro-rescue/adoption board? They are going to be happy that the person bought their animals from the store? If so, they are fooling themselves.

You are being unclear (purposely?). You were told it was rude to divulge the contents of a PRIVATE conversation that was held through PMs or emails. That is really very low and untrustworthy and it is something I'm certain you would NOT want someone to do to you.

Really? The private ranking system says otherwise. Go and look at the ranks on the thread you are talking about. You will see that people agree with the mods, not you. They have no reason to lie as the ranking system is completely anonymous.

First of, I think you need to calm down. This site isn't about the humans, it's about providing the best care to our guinea pigs.
Second, how rude of you to come onto a Pro-Rescue site and argue about how you think it's okay to buy guinea pigs from pet stores? It is very disrespectful to join any sort of club or forum and disagree with the main theme of their group. It would be like going to a peace rally and supporting war. (Maybe not a good example there.)
Anyways, I and most other people here like the rules they have, for it is a very simple, nice place to get quick information and to then move on with our lives.
And lastly, no, I'm not closed minded. And no, I will never again support the purchase of animals after all the things that I have learned on this site. I think you're close minded because you stick to you purchasing mindset even with all the horror stories and neglect stories done by pet stores that is told everywhere on this site.

No, it's not closed-mindedness. It's a culmination of experience and knowledge that's brought us to the conclusion that what's right for all animals -- and also what's most kind in the long run -- is NOT buying from pet stores.

Generally speaking, we are the people that have seen what happens in the back rooms and the breeding mills that sell to those pet stores and want to see that an end is put to it. We're a group of people that understands the consequences of buying that cute, furry pet are far-reaching and broad and will perpetuate an already horrible cycle of abuse. We're a group of people that wants to see that abuse ended for the betterment of all animals, not just that single cute animal you can't help but buy in a pet store while you're there on a daily errand.

To clarify, you weren't told you were being rude. You were told it's in extremely poor taste to drag a private conversation into public view so that you may stand a better chance at making a point. It's something that you probably should have thought through before going on a silly little temper tantrum about how ridiculous and meeeeaaaaan you think the moderators are.

There really aren't, for the most part, but there are plenty of sites that will tell people that buy animals from pet stores despite knowing of the pet overpopulation problem that they did a GREAT thing. Most people on this site, on the other hand, won't. Sorry. We just don't appreciate it.

Just like we don't appreciate being falsely accused and referred to as a hypocrite when you don't know what you're talking about.

We'll also be happy to point out that owning animals is not a right, but a privilege, and that if you aren't doing what needs to be done for the good of the animal - not the owner - then you have no business caring for more than a fern.

The only ones to suffer by your absence will be your guinea pigs.

I would like to see you raise children without "rules". What would you do if they reached to touch the stove? What would you do if they ran out into the road? I guarantee you could not safely raise children without saying at least once "don't do that!" in some form or another.
Not the same category of rules, but the point is the same... to control chaos.
The forum needs to maintain an adult like appearance so that the important messages that need to be told to "newbies" are seriously taken... no bold caps with bright neon colors in shorthand (the process of substituting a letter or number for part of or all of a word).
If everyone is allowed to give correct and incorrect instructions on how to obtain a guinea pig you are going to have the support of breeders and pet shops... this site is anti breeders and pet stores, just because you aren't- doesn't give you the right to promote them. You wouldn't go onto the ASPCA website and start talking about how you would like to have a chinchilla coat. It is one of the goals of this website to stop the mass breeding and selling of animals.
If the members were allowed to run ruthlessly around you would end up with the same situation you would have in the inner city- four or five groups of people all fighting and bickering over their "territories" (beliefs).

The point of the matter, whether or not you are defending yourself from buying guinea pigs, is that by buying them you are causing suffering. If you are okay with that... that is up to you. The mods are not saying "you can't" they are saying "you shouldn't... and here is why". The same way you would tell a child "you should not touch the stove because it is hot." And thus my post comes full circle.

I don't remember any of us mods ever stating that we know every single little thing about pigs. But I do betcha I know more about them than most do. My specialty area is diet/nutrition and I haven't devoted 4 1/2 years of my life to cavy nutrition just for the heck of it. If I see any wrong info given on any thread, your darn well right that I will be the first to correct that info because I don't want to see anyone's pigs come to harm through bad choices.

Yeah, we do and it's because there are so few of us and so many members. T is pretty picky about who gets to be a moderator around here. If we didn't have the rules we do, this place would be trashed in less than a week and you wouldn't be able to read anything for all the smilies, symbols, signatures, colored posts, all bold or capitalized posts, cursing, name calling and all the other stuff that would go on around here without the rules.

Welcome to a pro-rescue forum! If you join GPC forum and you brag about buying from a pet store, you can't expect people to support your decision. Before you joined, you should have read the rules, beliefs, and so forth - that would be the responsible thing to do.

Like the mods themselves have posted, they do not know everything that there is to know, in fact no one truly does. However, they know a lot more than you and they were chosen to be mods by CavySpirit for that simple fact. Also, I have noticed on several occasions that if a mod does not know an answer then they will direct the person to another site or person.

What's wrong with rules? They keep this board clean and free of improper grammar and language and pictures which helps others respect the forum itself. Rules and laws are the same thing. They keep order. Do you have a problem with laws too?

I personally don't find any of the rules here very tight. I used to moderate another forum with 100 plus members and it is no easy job!
I have found nothing but useful and great information here. This is a pro-adoption pro-rescue site.
Also this is the best forum I have found for information next to guinea lynx, but the best forum I have found for people and pig lovers!

I agree with everyone despite my previous bad decision. People shouldn't buy from petstores and they should choose to adopt 1st there are always place to adopt from, just have to be willing to take the time to do so. I just think that trying to get our point across doesn't have to be rude. Such as: voodoo saying we know a heck of a lot more than you do that is a rude way of putting it. Yes, you are a lot more educated, that is why she and other are here to learn. You could have put it like Ly did saying that you know a lot more than most you. We can be prompt to people and be firm and get our point across without the rude why of phrasing the sentence. I got so much information through my one thread it was unreal, but a lot on unnecessary comments are made to people for making a bad decision or for thinking a certain way. You are not JUST telling people they shouldn't get animals from petstores your pretty much bashing them period for mentioning it. Even criticism can be put in nicer term than SOME people put on here.
