What????? How can a rescue give them to a breeder? It is outrageous! You can't see it but I am fuming. After all the time you had to wait and everything you prepared!!! These two girls couldn't have hoped for better than to live with you and Gizzy.

Can you tell me at which rescue that "auction" happened?

It is not a real rescue - we do not have rescue's in South Africa. Fiona and Jasmin was taken in by a lady who found them at a mini farm after their first breeder did not want them anymore and she placed them up for "adoption" at R500 each (That is about $71) however because the breeder showed up with cash before I could (they are 18 hours drive from me) they went to the breeder and the lady told me all "proud" like that I can buy one of their babies! I am very very sad!!!

    Welcome to Africa.
Hope they don't use them for chow in some squatter camp somewhere or for Muti.

Weirderr things have happened here unfortunately.

I am sorry to hear about this. What a shame!! I have never heard of bidding on animals before so I was a bit confused. You mean in Africa there arent rescues or somesort that you can go and obtain a pig? You have to bid on them?

In South Africa, guinea pigs are very rare and guinea pig rescues do not exist. Gizzyandme had been waiting for months to get pigs htat were not from a breeder. But the woman sold them before Gizzyandme could get them. This woman probably wanted easy money and thought that she could make more money than with the rehoming fee that Gizzyandme was supposed to pay.

I am still very angry for you. These two girls would have been amongst the happiest pets in SA, and now they'll have to produce babies till they die.

It happens too in Indonesia, we don't have any shelter too. Guinea pig is a new thing, believe it or not I still find lots of people who would say "Wow, your hamster is big" or "Is that a rabbit?" to my piggies. The only place to get piggies is pet markets or petshops. And it's sad when I hear they said "This pet can eat everything, just give it what's left from your dinner"
