Eating Carpet?!
I have just bought my guinea pig a new 2-level cage. The top floor is carpeting, while the bottom floor is sawdust. On the ramp going up to the 2nd floor, there is carpeting. My guinea pig keeps on chewing on the carpet going up. I am so scared she'll get sick. I have chased her off numous times. Help!

Re: Eating Carpet?!
Does your piggy have hay to chew on? They need unlimited hay, that might keep them from chewing the carpet. I would also not use the sawdust as bedding. Please see a list of safe bedding here: Bedding

Dido Lissie. What kind of cage do you have ? Carpet on the upper leval is going to get stinky very quickly .

I have a mixutre of straw, hay and sawdust as bedding. Thanks for helping! She has a chewing block, wooden toys and she stills chews on whatever she finds. I have a petshop cage. Thanks for helping!
PS. I have a litterbox for Roxy.

Re: Eating Carpet?!
The cage is new right. I know what cage it is now. Pretty expensive. It's a shame as you could have made a better cage from grids for half the price.
Roxy is probably chewing so much because theres not enough space to run around and most probably board.

I always stroke her. I would love to get her a friend, but my mum says one is enough.

Re: Eating Carpet?!
First can you find a link or picture to your cage? If not what are the dimensions?
Second she needs unlimited grass hay at all times.

Re: Eating Carpet?!
For 1 pig you need a minimum of 76cm x 91cm cage space. I'm sure you give her plenty of love and lap time but a friend is the best option. Like being stranded on a desert island without anyone to hang with, talk to or play with. Could you imagine spending 5 or more years like that.

Re: Eating Carpet?!
I know, I tried telling my mum that, but she still says no. I went shopping and found some stuff called 'Soft Sorbant. I will keep using straw but replace using sawdust with Soft Sobant. I am sorry, I got the measurments all wrong. Her cage is about 20cm and 1 metre long. it is also about 40cm in width, but she has the second floor that makes up for it. She is no longer chewing on the carpet which is good. I have no idea why she stopped, but I'm glad! Thanks for all the info!

Re: Eating Carpet?!
Ignore what I said before. Here are the real measurments:
Length: 113cm
Width: 51cm
Height: 51cm

Re: Eating Carpet?!
Second stories don't count towards over all size. Also, 51 cm by 113 cm is equal to about 20 inches by 44 inches, which in grid cubes would only be about 1 and a half grids by three grids. Too small for one pig, especially if there is a ramp which detracts even MORE from size.
