    Doesn't it bug you..

When people ask you how long you "plan" on being veggie? It seems like such an add question. In a way I didn't "plan" on being veggie, I just decided so why would I have a set date for when I throw out my beleifs? I just don't know how to answer this question. I usually just say something like until I feel like it but it seems rude and saying a direct answer like 15 months is just a flat out lie. I do plan on being veggie until I die but I don't think many people would understand this and it would just spark contraversys, even with my friends who called vegatarians stupid. Go figure.

I know what you mean. When my uncle heard I was a vegetarian he said (being nice but still) "You might want to eat a little bit of meat every once in a while just in case you ever decide to not be a vegetarian anymore, because after a while of not eating it your stomach won't digest it anymore." Like I don't know that! First off I hate meat, and second of all that totally mkaes you not a vegetarian.

That's bot really true. You might have minor problems when you decide to be a carnivor, but you just have to inrtoduce slowly.

I am not a vegetarian myself, but I have never asked somebody this or heard of anyone asking this before, it is a little odd though. I do sometimes ask how long they have been vegetarian. Just because I have respect for people who can stick to thier beliefs like that.

    Aah.
But still, I don't WANT to eat meat. Ever. Why do people have to ask you? I don't ever go to meat eaters and ask them when they are going to stop eating meat.

I am not a vegetarian but I am still for vegetarianism and I can't stand meat-eaters who are rude at or about vegetarians. They probably aren't doing it to be rude though, but just don't know enough about vegetarianism. A lot of people I know who were vegetarians it didn't last long, or for some they were vegetarians since childhood and by adulthood they started eating meat again.

I have recently decided that i want to be a vegetarian for the health benefits. And tell my friends and family was not easy because they just simple dont, or better yet dont want to understand the reasoning behind my decision.

I've been a vegetarian for years now. Very, Very rarely do I eat fish (pescitarian). At the office, I'm the only vegetarian. My co-workers tease me once in a while (not in a meanful way) because I nibble on nuts and veggies all day. My boss recently became vegetarian. Red meat wrecs havoc on a humans body...causes elevated cholesterol, heart disease, takes longer (up to 3 days) to digest among others. Not worth it. Living on a vegetarian diet slows the aging process, is a less expensive meal plan and so on. Supplements do need to be taken. I certainly don't go around asking "are you a meat eater?" It doesn't bug me though when people ask if I'm a meat eater or a vegetarian. I usually announce it as we have lunch brought in by reps.

    Re: Doesn't it bug you..

I know OP may hate me... but:

I KNOW it drives me crazy! My best friend (all 4 of my best friends are veg it's nice to all be on the same page) always gets that from his dad/family and a few of his non-veg friends... our friend Jason said to him once after poor Mitchell said he was hungry and 20 minutes later was presented with a a frying pan full of BACON *throws up in mouth* and Mitch reminded him he was a vegetarian and he said "oh, you're still getting on with that are you?" like, how IGNORANT!

What i unfortunately get all the time is comments on how pale I am and people telling me that not eating meat is making me sick (I take very good care of myself and am more than likely, much healthier than them!) this drives me crazy, I was just born to be pale, I even take iron and B12!

also, when people say stupid things like "so you don't get ANY protein at all?" ...*slaps own forehead* people are SO uneducated... and then they tell me I'm no eating right and I'm unhealthy... they don't even know what eating right is!

Does anyone get told they should eat healthy? It's so irritating.... you DON'T need to tell a vegetarian that... they already know all about it.

    SO annoying

    Re: Doesn't it bug you..

I've been a vegetarian for 5 years. My mom used to sneak meat into my food, and I pretended not to know. Until I learned how to cook my own food, I threw away her food without her knowing and went to bed hungry for weeks until she realized I was being serious about this "vegetarian" thing and cooked 'veggie meals'. My mom thought it was going to be the end of the world and that I should've waited when I was older to turn veggie (she must've thought I wasn't sensible enough).

I guess some people think being vegetarian is a temporary diet thing. Almost no one adheres to a diet plan. Or maybe they think that no one can live without meat. Meat may be just too good to give up (I disagree). That's just the way people think when you tell them you're going to be veggie.

I've been a vegan for almost two years now, and I still get asked that question. I'm not quite sure how to answer it either, because who knows maybe my beliefs will change (VERY VERY unlikely), so I say for the rest of my life. Because I don't see myself changing in that way anytime soon, so it's the truth. Still though, it aggravates me that people would ask that over and over. What does it matter to them anyway? I don't ask them how long they're going to be omnivores, so they should give the same respect to vegans and vegetarians.

    Re: Doesn't it bug you..

Weird!! That's actually never a question I've gotten and I've been veg for 14 years. It would really annoy me to get asked that though. Maybe it's just because I'm so rabidly adamant about it. XD Or maybe it's just the area I live in.

I have had many other stupid questions, of course. And some people have been very disrespectful of my vegetarianism. When people talk about their "delicious" meat dinner or whatever I do not always have to pipe up with why it's bad and gross and cruel; but whenever I mention I ate tofurky or tofu or that I'm a vegetarian, someone feels the need to declare they're "proud carnivores" and how gross my meal was, etc. Especially online. People in my life, veg and otherwise, are generally very respectful, again, this may be where I live, or it may be that I choose to associate only with kind people.

Well, just simply ask them how long do they plan on being rude and ask silly minded questions! I think it's rude when people ask. I for one am not one, I just thinking asking questions of that stature isn't appropriate. It's like asking a lady her age or dress size. You just don't ask, and It's none of their business to begin with. Whenhas it ever become proper ettique to do should things? Now a days, I find some people so disrespectful on some of those things. I for one do not go for the with my son. I will be rest assured that he will not be disrespectful or sassy to anyone.

    Re: Doesn't it bug you..

Tserisa: I get asked the question allllll the time! Along with other rude and unnessary questions. It's quite annoying. I've gotten from aunts, uncles, friends, boyfriends, its crazy.

It's like asking a lady her age or dress size. You just don't ask, and It's none of their business to begin with. Whenhas it ever become proper ettique to do should things?
I think that that is a GREAT way to put it! However, sometimes, I get that its an honest question and they really mean no harm. To that I usually just mumble..."I don't know. Until I want to eat meat I guess...." Which trust me, will be never! LOL.

But when people ask it with a snotty attitude and I know they're just trying to raise trouble, I'll respond with something like "How long to you plan on murdering innocent animals for your tastebuds?" Of course that will just spark an arguement but I have more facts than they do.

I guess some people think being vegetarian is a temporary diet thing. Almost no one adheres to a diet plan.
To me, this isn't a diet plan. When I became vegetarian I signed over to the dark side...muhahaha! But on a more serious note, in becoming vegetarian I opened my eyes to all of the horrors and there is no way I could consiously chow donwn on a steak knowing how the cow lived and died just for me to enjoy my meal.

My mom used to sneak meat into my food
How old were you when this happened? To me this is just a terrible thing...don't take offense.

I know OP may hate me... but:
Just thought I'd say that I don't hate you but I don't support the choice your making in another thread. However, thats another thread, so the discussion should be saved for that.

My best friend (all 4 of my best friends are veg
Wow your lucky you have veg friends. Even after I opened my friends eye's to the horrors, she continues to eat corpses. It's horrible.

They probably aren't doing it to be rude though,
I understand this but that isn't the case all the time.

    P.S. I'm glad your a supporting meat-corpse muncher.

I was about 12-13 when my mom snuck meat into my meals. I think i'm considered a pescatarian(SP?) because I still eat fish. When i'm older i'll move far away from my parents and become vegan.

I love meat but totally respect other peoples chices and tastes. So when they ask you that why don't you reply "for how long do you plan to eat meat?" I'd love to see their faces!

    Re: Doesn't it bug you..

I recently had an incident where I didn't want meat on a quesadilla. It's supposed to be just cheese, as the name implies. One of my friends said, "But you really need protein..." and I said, "You know, there's protein in cheese..." So we got into a rhetoric about protein... and it made me think a little more on vegetarianism. I just don't know if I could give up things I eat/drink every day (like dairy products, I'm a cheesy, milk-loving person). Or some of my favorite foods like fish. (as it is, I stay away from fish that are over-harvested, so it really narrows down the fish I do eat)

I can recall when I was in middle school I wanted to become a vegetarian and my parents made nothing to go with meat at dinner for a week. I don't understand how they didn't get as sick of meat as I did.

I don't think I've ever asked someone how long they were planning on being a vegetarian, but I've asked how long they have been one!

I just don't know if I could do it... maybe while we still have leftover money from our tax refund I'll start trying out some vegetarian forms of things I like. Can't hurt, right?!
