    Pellets

I am currently feeding my pigs each 1/8 cup of Oxbow pellets every morning. When I get home from work at night, two of my pigs have a little left, but the other one (Tsunami) has eaten it all. They get veggies every morning and night too. I just feel bad going to bed with Tsunami's bowl empty even though she has already eaten her pellets for the day and she's had her veggies too. Could I give her 1/16 cup of pellets in the morning and 1/16 cup at night so she has some for over night? Maybe I'm worrying too much. She's always begging for food every time I walk by. She's such a PIG!

Perhaps you need to increase the amount of veggies you are giving her? Do they get unlimited amounts of hay? How old is she?

It is recommended to give between 1/8th of a cup to 1/4 of a cup of pellets. So you could give her slightly more pellets.

My boys used to do that too when I started limiting thier pellets to a proper amount. Don't feel bad, I felt bad too What I did was every morning I'd scoop the 1/8th cup each which would make it 1/4 th a cup into a cereal bowl outside of the cage. Then I would give them some of it in the morning, and a bit more from it in the afternoon, a bit more from it around dinner, and some before I went to be. That way they got the same ammount of food each day they just got in it several small meals, and after a while they stopped eating it so fast, now a bowl of food will last at least to dinner, sometimes even untill I go to bed.

I give her 1 1/2 large leaves of lettuce (sometimes a little more) and either a baby carrot, a 1 inch slice of cucumber, a little spinach, 1/2 cherry tomato, or a little bit of broccoli. She gets this every morning and night. Right now their cages are next to the kitchen, because I am little short on room. So, that's probably why they are constantly begging. Every time they hear a plastic bag rustling, the fridge door open, or the faucet running they wheek at me. Perhaps it will be better once they are all moved into my room.

They always have tons of hay.

She's over a year old. And she's quite large. But, it's not that she's fat. Her bone structure is very large. Do you think she needs more pellets than the others? All my pigs went to the vet the other day, and the doc said they all looked healthy. So I know she's not overweight.

    Re: Pellets

You are giving spinach, broccoli and cucumber daily? Those aren't daily foods. Spinach could be cut out entirely as it's very high in A and through the roof in oxalic acid. It should be fed no more than once or twice per week at most. Cucumber is better every other day. Broccoli is a gassy veggie and needs to be fed once or twice per week.

Have you tried bell pepper? They are good daily.

Every time they hear a plastic bag rustling, the fridge door open, or the faucet running they wheek at me.
Just because they wheek at you doesn't mean you have to feed them. My girls do the same thing with bags or when the fridge is open but I don't feed them everytime they hear these things. They get their pellets divided into two daily allotments and their veggies are divided into two daily allotments. Then I give each at different times.

    Re: Pellets

No I don't give them those veggies daily. I alternate them all so that I give them what is appropriate according to the chart. Sorry. That is what I meant by "or".
