How much fresh produce do your pigs get daily?

I am interested to know how much your guinea pigs get in regards to fresh produce.

    My 4 sows get:
    - A heaped plateful (or one of those old, tall lunch boxes filled to the top) twice a day
    - Their daily foods include:
    - Cos Lettuce (romaine lettuce)
    - Green and Yellow capsicum (bell peppers)
    - Corriander (cilantro)
    - Wheat Grass
    - Baby Carrots + leaves
    - Corn Husks
    - The foods they get frequently:
    - Parsley
    - Red Capsicum (bell peppers)
    - Celery Leaves (they wont eat the actual celery, just the leaves)
    - Foods they get occasionally:
    - Basil
    - Thyme
    - Apple

    My two Boys get

    Daily -
    Romain
    Endive
    Cilantro
    1 baby Carrot each
    1Cherry Tomato each
    GreenPepper
    Yellowpepper
    Parsley**
    Peas**

    Frequently
    Beans
    BokChoy
    Dandlion
    Cucumber
    Red Pepper
    Celery

    Occasionally
    Asparagus
    Artichoke
    Brocoli
    Apple
    Orange
    Strawberry

I've only had my boys for about 3 months and they will eat about anything! Except Zuchini or Squash - they will not touch it!

** I know too that the peas and parsley aren't really supposed to be given everyday, but parsley is Patches favoriate and snappeas are Piglets favorite. So I will give each a small bit (one sprig of parsley and about 1/2 a peapod) before each feeding. I give them more of it every couple days.

OH - I just noticed the question really was how MUCH they get - I serve them on a dinner size paper plate and it is usually covered and mounded up... they get this amount twice a day. Usually they will graze at the plate for about an hour.

Re: How much fresh produce do your pigs get daily?

My 11 piggies get two huge platefuls of food every day, stacked about 2"-3" high! They go through it all in about 10 minutes, it's rather amazing. Just about every day they get these items split amongst them:

At least three types of lettuce (green leaf, red leaf, romaine, endive, escarole, etc.)
    A big pile of cilantro
    10-11 cherry tomatoes
    5-10 slices of zucchini
1-2 bell peppers (green, yellow, orange, and occasionally red)
    1 large carrot

They get a wide variety of other stuff mixed in depending on what I have, including parsley, cucumber, celery, apples, grapes, oranges, strawberries, etc.

Re: How much fresh produce do your pigs get daily?

To list everything my pigs get in a month would take all night, I like variety, but 3 will eat about 1 1/2lbs of grass, fresh forages, and vegetables per day. That's around the amount that fits in 1 plastic grocery bag because that's how I weighed it out. Threw it all in a bag and set it on the scale everyday for a week to get an average of how much they were eating without having to add every single item seperately.

My pigs get about 3 cups daily (each) so that would be about 21 cups a week = 84 cups a wheek!

    BokChoy
How could I forget Bok Choy? Bok Choy would have to be one of the girls favourite vegetables although they do not get it daily.

Thanks for all of your replies guys. It is interesting (for me anyway) to compare diets between other piggy owners.

Have you seen this thread? (I'm not about to type all that out again), but gives you an idea of what others feed! I've actually cut down on the amounts as my girls weren't eating quite as much hay as they should - something to be aware of.

Re: How much fresh produce do your pigs get daily?

    I have 2 pigs.

Their 2 favorites - they get these everyday:

Green lettuce of some sort and a big handful of either parsley or cilantro. They seem to prefer parsley though. 2 petite baby carrots (they are actually smaller than baby carrots hehe).

Then an assortment of the following - whatever happens to be in my fridge:
    A couple green beans
    Zucchini
    Cucumber
    baby tomatoes
bell peppers - whichever color I have on hand

Once a week or so I give them each an orange slice. They LOVE that. They both turn their nose up at apples.

I've offered aspargus but they weren't goin for that at all.

I admit I only feed mine veggies once a day on weekdays, but they get a morning snack on weekends as well.
