My rats - Würfel

I'd like to introduce my rats to you. Sadly, they're all dead by now but Ioved them dearly.

Würfel



"Würfel" is the german word for dice. She was our roleplay mascot. A friend's mother had found her in a plastic bag while walking the dog on a field. Since they already had the dog and a cat, they couldn't keep the rat, so I took her in. It took me three months to realize she was blind. She never jumped off something she didn't know but she managed very well. She was very tame and cuddly, not afraid of humans at all. The woman handling her on the picture hated rats, was terrified of them and found them disgusting. Ten minutes with Würfel, and she was a devoted rat fan.

The vet said the rat was already quite old. I hoped to keep her for a long time but sadly, she died after only six months.

Cute rat! I used to have two - from a petshop, as I didn't know you get get rats from anywhere else. They never did fully trust us... I remember the first time I saw them the man slammed the slidey door to their tiny tank shut and they jumped right in the air through fright. I think that's one reason why they never stopped being scared and sometimes they would nip. It was an awful petshop and I didn't like the tiny housing and the way they treat the animals. They were really fun to have on your shoulder though. Since no one replied to this thread earlier, I don't see why anyone would be angry with you bringing up an old post, Daisy. )

Well - I'm very happy that someone replied at all, so thank you! I think the rat forum isn't as frequented as the GP forum but one or two weeks shouldn't matter much anyway.

It was just a little inside joke. Yes the otehr forums arn't very popular. The rabbit forum is sort of popular, but not very.

I can't remember posting them anywhere else but here and in a german guinea pig forum. And on my home page of course. If you saw them elsewhere, maybe they were stolen. Or I'm getting senile. *G*

I've heard that rats can be great pets. Were it not for the fact that everyone else around me seems to think they all come directly from sewers, I would consider getting some. Maybe one day I will...

Everyone I know hates rats. I have no idea why. They seem to be such sweet pets even though I've never had one....

Rats are great pets! If it wasn't for the cancer and the short life span, I'd even prefer them to guinea pigs.
