Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I'm adopting a few rats from my local shelter next week, but first I need a cage. I don't even know where to start looking for a kind of cage to get. I've seen people buy ferret cages or bird cages they kept them in. Any suggestions or pictures or anything is great. |

You can look through the "Cages for Other Pets" section. I saw a C&C cage with chicken wire on the inside, because the cubes were too big. Lots of people use Ferret Nations, and you could check Craigslist and see if anybody is trying to get rid one. |

Ferret Nation cages are great, I have one myself. For young rats though you do need to add mesh. I don't recommend grid cages though unless they are wrapped in mesh. I've also heard Martin's cages are good. Hamster cages, aquariums and the like are way too small. You need about 1 1/2 to 2 cubic feet per rat. I have 6 rats, 3 girls/3 boys and each sex live in a section of the FN I have. I could probably fit up to 4-6 rats per section though. Ferret Supplies, Ferret Cages, Ferret Food - Ferret.com has Ferret Nation 142's for $154.99+6.99 shipping which is the best price you will find anywhere. |
