I am hoping to get some rats and I was wondering whether they spray out of their cage? Or does it just depend upon the rat? |

I wouldn't say the "spray". But some will back up to the back of their cages to pee and it will seem to spray at times. I've always kept plexiglass against the wall behind their cages, just in case. When rats are out for playtime, they should have a litter box nearby so they can run to it if they need to go. Ours use their litter boxes religiously while out with us. The key is to start litter training them as soon as you get them. Typically, rats won't pee or poo on you, unless they are scared. Rats sometimes "mark"...though this is very tiny little droplets that have no odor. And, if a rat does pee, it's about the size of a quarter. So, very little. I've never seen a rat spray like a cat or bunny does. |

No.A rat will not spray like a cat or other animals that spray. Males do scent mark, but it is not actually spraying. They just leave a few droplets on surfaces or even their owners.I have 3 males and they mark me.I have had several females in the past and some would mark, but it is more of a male thing. And as mentioned above by Rattie Mom,they rarely pee or poop on their owners, unless they are scared or nervous. |
