My newly adopted rats

I just adopted 7 young rats that are about 4 months old, 5 females and 2 males. Of the females one is a blue, another one is champaigne, another one is tan, another one is mostly white with some black on the face, and the last one is a black hooded type I think. Three of the females are Dumbo eared and some are part curly coats. The males are also part curly coats and one is mostly black and the other is a black hooded type. They are all such sweeties and quite friendly. The little blue girl is a bit shy but not to bad. The person that had them rescued them from horrible living conditions. They were very thin/boney and not very friendly. She had nursed them back to health and now I have them. Here are some pictures.

Re: My newly adopted rats

Oh my, I want them all!!! They are so adorable Dawn. How many do you have in total now?

I am working on those crocheted tunnels. Looks like I need to make more than just one rat tunnel. How many cages do you have total? I can do one for each cage.

Re: My newly adopted rats

LY, if we lived closer to each other, I would let you have a couple. They are so adorable. I have 10 ratties now but my mom might take a couple of the girls. Now all I need to do is come up with some names for the new ones, ant suggestions?

I don't breed any animals and why would you be confused?

Re: My newly adopted rats

I was just making sure. You said you had males and females and some people are clueless that they should seperate them. I am not saying you are one of these people, I was just checking.

Re: My newly adopted rats

Dawn, can you post individual pics of all the new ratties then we can help you figure out names. I just want to see everyone's individual colors and maybe you can explain each ones personality too. I'd be glad to help you figure out names.

Re: My newly adopted rats

I agree with Ly, pics are needed to figure out names

Years ago, like 12 yrs,I had a hooded rat, his name was Mickey rats, like the bar, original I know.... I didn't know they liked tohave friends then. I would love to have a pair of rats,I might look into that soon. How different do you find male versus female, affection wise?

Re: My newly adopted rats

My males are much more affectionate than my females and my males are much younger than 2 of my girls. I hope they continue to be as affectionate as they get older. My girls are loving too but not as much as the boys.

Re: My newly adopted rats

LY, I will get some pictures together tomorrow and get them posted. The little girl rat, the one with the black markings going down her back is Zoey. That name just popped into my head as I was playing with her this morning. I like the names Gidget and greta, I'm just not sure which ones will be named that.

piggly wiggly, It's hard to tell right now which is more cuddlier. They are all real young yet so they are quite active. My foster males are less active and are quite content to just lay on my lap while on the computer. They are older rats, Hyde is 2 years old and Fez&Kelso are about 8 months old. There used to be a Mickey Rats bar in Buffalo that I used to go to once in a while. It was down by Lake Erie boat harbor. When we were done water skiing we would go in there and have dinner. It was a nice place but I don't think they are there anymore.

Re: My newly adopted rats

I dont find any diffrence in male/female rats. I have had 2 female rats that were just insainly loving. Lucky who is 4 years old licks my face, hand anything! And she will grab my finger and lick it! She loves me! And my other rat Lily, she does the same thing! The first day we adopted her she just went crazy in love with us! Now I have a group of 5 brothers, when I stick my hand in their cage, or even make a kissy sound they come running up to me, and kiss my nose, or hand. Buddy is also like that. I have had so many rats who just are so affectionate its rediculas. Now rats I get into the rescue, not so friendly. Most are biters, but I ushally can break that habit in a few weeks. The only diffrence in males/females is females are ushally more hyper active and males are lazy-ier ( sp?? ). Of course all babies, doesnt matter male or female are both very hyper. I really think that the more affectionate a rat is compared to how not affectionate a rat is, is how they were treated when they were babies. Sorry for writing a book.

Re: My newly adopted rats

I named 3 of my new females Gidget, Greta and Zoey and here they are

Now I just need names for the other two females. Here are the pictures.

These two girls are the skittish ones but the solid colored one will come to the front of the cage when I'm there. The black and white one is shy and more reserved. I was thinking of the name Mia, Millie or Maddie for the solid colored girl, what do you think? If you have other name choices let me know.
