Bunny won't go in box anymore
So we have a rabbit that we've had for 5 years now. He's always been litter box trained but since we put him in his new C&C cage, he doesn't go in the box. I think he doesn't like the texture of the coro. (He's been in there for a few months) Cage is in the same spot etc.
Any ideas on what I can do? He chews towels. I'm thinking of getting hay mats but they are super expensive and he goes through them pretty quickly. What else can I try?
He also chews the coro...ideas on that?

Re: Bunny won't go in box anymore
He has been in the cage for a few months and is still going outside of the box? Usually I would say he is just upset about the change and will settle down in a few weeks, but if it has already been a few months then you may want to try putting in another litter pan where he seems to be going more.
Try giving him some williow or other wood toys to chew. This should help distract him from chewing the coro. If he keeps at it, rub a little Ivory soap on the spots he is chewing.

that's what I thought too but he's still doing it. I'll put another box and see. He's going anywhere now. He's always been super easy going and the cage is way bigger!
Thanks for the tip on soap!

What kind of cage did he have before?

He had a hutch and we put wood down so he wouldn't be on wires. Maybe I should just get a piece of plywood and put it down.

Does he have anything to chew on other than hay? Get him some toys to play with-- he is likely chewing out of boredom. My bunnies' favorites include: anything made from untreated wicker, baby keys to fling, hard plastic baby toys to fling, those sisal carrot rattle things, grass mats, cardboard tubes stuffed with hay, crumpled pieces of brown paper, and knot nut nibblers.

Oh yeah, he has a lot of toys of different sizes. He really likes the blocks that are interconnected with wood. He has bunch of wooden toys. He has a plushie he likes to throw around too. His favorite game is to take the colored wood and put it in his water bowl....
Didn't think about the cardboard tubes stuffed with hay. That sounds like something he would like.
Grass mats he does like but they are expensive and I can't find them in the stores anymore. I'd have to order them. he goes through them way quicker than I would like. I may try to find one of those hay baskets.
