Baby bunny!

I picked up my 8 week old bundle of fluff today! She is gorgeous. Her original owners purchased 2 rabbits from a petstore. They were missexed and an accidental pregnancy resulted. They are getting the dad nuetered and keeping the two parents together. They then advertised the babies in the Quokka (which is a local advertisement paper) which is how I found my girl.

She is chocolate with cream flecks on her chest, stomach and a little bit down her sides.

Her cage is the equivalent to a 3x3 and I am going to attach a 60cmx120cm run to it during the day to give her more running space. Plus when I am home (and she is toilet trained) she will get at least an hour out before work, and then all evening free ranging in the room.

Re: Baby bunny!

Ooo, she is a beauty! Bunnies are my favourite pets after guinea pigs, haha.

You may want to tell your friends that their female rabbit needs to be spayed as well. Female rabbits have a very high risk of ovarian/uterine cancer (I can't remember the exact % but it is really high). And a hormonal female rabbit can be really territorial.

Rabbits are rather good at using their litter tray, and I am glad she'll have a lot of time out in the evening

Re: Baby bunny!

Gorgeous bunny - she is a stunner. Congrats on adopting her - and its great to hear that the previous owners are getting their boy neutered so the parent rabbits can live together.

As others have said, spaying is VITAL for female rabbits. It would certainly be worth letting the previous owners know this so they can get theirs done too. The figure I have found was that up to 80% of entire females develop develop uterine cancer (which is fatal) by the age of 5. In other words, only 1 in 5 entire females has the chance of living a full and healthy life.

As for names, you could go for something chocolate related such as Galaxy or Twix.

Re: Baby bunny!

Thanks everyone!

I do remember reading about the risk of females developing uterine cancer but forgot to mention that to the previous owners. I will give them a call. My girl is being spayed as soon as she is old enough.

Re: Baby bunny!

To me, she looks like a Carla. Haha, I don't know! Or Lola, maybe. Good job on having plans of spaying her. If you EVER meet anyone who doesn't feel the need to spay their rabbit, send them this link, and make sure they read it.... all of it.
