Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I'm considering getting a mini lop or a Netherland dwarf rabbit and although I'm not new to rabbits at all (I had many growing up) this will be the first time trying out a C&C cage with them. So I'm wondering what size would be best for one mini lop or Netherland dwarf? Would a 2x4 C&C cage be ok? Because that's what I currently have for my guinea pig and it would be great if I could save space by having the rabbit cage at the bottom and guinea pig at the top. Also I know rabbits and guinea pigs should never be housed together, however, is it okay for them to have floor time together as long as they are seperated by grids or something? Therefor being able to see each other but not come in contact. |

5 grids across is the min. I'd use. You need to build up too because they need room to jump and stretch. Don't let size fool you - smaller breed rabbits need more space than large breed rabbits. |

Just a note - the 2 by 5 is the min. I'd do provided you give lots of floor time i.e several hours a day. If you are sure both rabbits and pigs are healthy, it shouldn't be a problem. |

I read that the they need twice their length for one side, and 4 times his length (while stretching) in length. I was thinking of adopting a bunny. Would a 3x3 be okay ? It would have 3 levels, or would a 2x4 be better ? And also, do rabbits need a friend like piggies ? Because some sites say yes, but mostly everyone here who has a bunny only has one...If they need a friend, then I'll either get 2 gerbils or another guinea pig as I can't afford the care of 2 bunnies. |

Rabbits naturally live in herds like guinea pigs. However, there are some alpha bunnies that do not like others and are all right if you give them plenty of attention. It is best to keep them in pairs, like guinea pigs. A 3 by 3 is best. A 2 by 4 is kind of cramped unless you leave the door open 24/7 so they are free range. |

Thanks to both of you, the 3x3 with levels was a good idea sealon. I think I might try doing something like that myself since it wouldn't take up as much room as far as the width goes. And just leave the guinea pig cage separate. I guess I'll just have to play around with different setups and see what works. Also I've had rabbits both in pares and alone and I've found that, like rabbitsncavyluv said, some do just fine alone as long as you give them alot of attention. It really depends on the personality of the rabbit I think. |

Thanks for your replies ! I will try to adopt a rabbit from a rescue or a shelter that prefers to live alone. Normally, the bunny should be free range during the day. But since it would be closed at night, I guess I'll build a 3x3. I will make a 3x3 base, a 1x2 second level, and a 2x3 3rd level. |
