Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I posted about a month ago and was going to get him neutered and adopt a friend for him. I have no idea what happened. He seemed perfectly fine, eating good, acting normal. This past weekend I woke up one morning and he was dead in his cage. I feel so bad. I just hope he didn't suffer. I feel terrible. I keep telling myself that at least his last few months were happy. (I adopted him from a friend who had no time for him and kept him in a small cage.) I built him a much larger cage and tried to pay as much attention to him as I could, given that I work full-time. Still, seems like I should have noticed that something was wrong!! |

Like guinea pigs, rabbits are prey animals. It's instinctive for them not to let anyone know when they are sick or suffering. I'm so sorry for your loss. I had a similar experience with one of my rabbits this past November, It turned out that my rabbit's death was basically a freak accident that couldn't have been prevented. Though I am still in mourning, I can tell you that talking to fellow bunny people really helped. If you need someone to talk to, please feel free to message me. Don't hesitate. |

I am so sorry for your loss. Know you gave him the very best for the time you had him. When your heart heals, maybe after knowing what wonderful creatures bunnys are, you can think of adopting another one. Again, I am sorry for your loss. |

I'm that your bunny passed away. I know the pain to well of loosing a beloved friend. My daughter worked in a petstore..her motive was to use her position there to educate people on proper care of rabbits, guinea pigs and so on. We had an issue where she called me at work to come in and look at an ill rabbit. When I got there, they had this poor baby in the back room in a small pen. My daughter made sure the pen was clean and the poor baby had food and water. She asked if it can be brought to the vet. She was told "no" due to the cot. I got there and examined this rabbit and immediately notice no fecal pellets were present and its food dish was full and the water bottle. I gently picked this bunny up and was shocked to feel nothing more than just bones. He was o weak he was totally limp in my arms. I asked my daughter how long he was like this and she said for a while and upset that they wouldn't seek vet care. I went to the counter and told them this rabbit was seriously ill and if it didn't get medical attention it wouldn't make it through the night. I believe it had GI stasis. A few hours later my daughter called stating that they allowed her to take it to the vet. She rushed there and when she walked she said they just grabbed it and took it to ICU for fluids, xrays. In the end she called me an hour later crying that the rabbit didn't make it. I cried myself because I knew the poor thing had suffered terribly. At least thank God she was cared for by my daughter. The vet waived the 300.oo bill knowing the situataion. She too was angered by their negligence. I emailed the company and told them the entire story. I did get a response. My daughter quite the job there in disgust and I boycotted to this day. We have 5 of our own rabbits plus my 5 pigs. They are living beings who each have unique personalities. It's easy to get attached and when loosing one the grief is no different than loosing a human companion. There were other occasions that Sarah came home from the petstore with a rabbit that died due to illness and neglect of care from the petstore. I'm sorry if I'm going on and a little off topic. I just want you to know I have empathy and understanding for your loss and my heart is here for you. Your little bun was given a lot of love and wasn't alone in some dirty cage. You gave it peace and affection. It's hard not knowing what caused the little one to pass. It is true that they due tend to hide illness as a survival mechanism when in the wild. May your little one rest in peace. Good Karma to you for having so much love to give. |
