Moving a rabbit indoors?

I have a beautiful, almost 3-year-old buck who I aboslutely love. I got him not knowing a lot about rabbits and just made him a small, boring hutch outdoors. I am know realizing what a boring life he must have, and I'm considering moving him indoors so he can have a more exciting life. However I can't have him roaming around indoors to his heart's content, because I have cats that would be glad to "play" with him if they managed to get inside without our knowing.

Does anyone have any ideas for a cage that could be made other-animal-and-little-sibling proof and a lot of room for him to play? Would CC cages work? A

Thanks!

Re: Moving a rabbit indoors?

C&C's would be great for a rabbit. Just make sure you make it at least 2 grids high with a good lid, and more than one level is good. He should be able to stand on his back legs without touching the top. It should be at least 2x6 or 3x4 (same thing, but I think 3x4 gives more running room) and make sure he gets about 2-3 hrs of floortime!

Try checking the Cat/Dog proofing photos in the photo gallery.

Re: Moving a rabbit indoors?

Maybe he could have a room and you ould just keep the door closed to make sure that the cats don't get to him? Because rabbits need quite alot of room.. 6ftx2ftx2ft is minium.

Re: Moving a rabbit indoors?

Thats really great that your thinking of moving him inside! I definantly agree with Taboo, that would be great if he could have a room that the cats can't go in. Another option besides the cubes would be a fairly high dog exercise pen (The cheapest place I've seen them is KV Pet & Equine / KV HealthLinks - Dog, Cat and Horse Supplies, Pet Meds and Nutritio ).

Good luck!

Re: Moving a rabbit indoors?

You may actually find that your cat and rabbit get along, many cats and rabbits will snuggle with each other like bunnies do with other bunnies. You just need to monitor them when your bunny is out.
