I have had luck with this forum before so I am here asking for help again. I am now fostering a rabbit for the group that I foster for. I usually foster labs but the shelter has been full with so many animals that I was asked to consider fostering another animal esp. since we have guinea pigs. This rabbit is a male dutch. Very sweet. He has already spent 7 mos. in the shelter and was originally found in in street. Anyway I give him plenty of timothy hay but he doesn't eat any of it. He also doesn't know how to drink out of the water bottle. I have to give him a water bowl which invariably ends up spilling. We made him a little run outside. He also has a c&c cage on the our porch. He seems to be shocked by all his time at the shelter and I have been trying to figure out how to help get over his hesitation. |

My rescue rabbit was very quiet when we first got him and barely moved during floor time. Now he constantly gives us kisses and is gradually exploring more and more during floor time. He has run of our linoleum floored kitchen during floor time and we give him his veggies then so he has to socialize with us a little. He also really enjoys being on the couch with us when we watch TV or hang out--I just put down a trash bag with a towel over it since he's not totally litterbox trained yet. He will eventually come out of his shell! Also, I prefer to give him a water bowl over a bottle, I've had too many experiences with bottles leaking or getting stuck. He hasn't knocked over the bowl yet, maybe just buy a very heavy ceramic dog bowl? |
