New rabbit cage

I am thinking of building a C&C cage for my two rabbits but haven't been able to find any information on what size the cage should be? I know my bunnies like to get out on their own and am wondering how I could make that possible? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: New rabbit cage

I had my buns cage originally 2 by 4 and I was told that was fine and he did have enough room to stretch, stand up, and have room for his litter box but I decided to make it bigger by a few feet.

I'm a new bunny owner so I may not have been the best of help. I do know that it should be large enough for the rabbit (I guess two in your case) to fully stretch out comfortably, have room for their litter boxes, and room to be able to stand up on their back feet. You could add a second level too! My bun rarelly uses his second level but I left it there anyway incase he decided he wanted too.

Re: New rabbit cage

The best way to go is as big as possible. Even if you don't have a huge amount of floor space, you can go up- Rabbits don't need ramps to get up to the next level like cavies, they can easily jump it.

Re: New rabbit cage

If I make the cage really long instead of high, it will be around 28 inches high, but the length will probably be more than 7 feet, would that be ok?
Thanks for the advice.

Re: New rabbit cage

i too am a new bunny owner and i have a C&C CAGE that is 2 x 3 grids and is 2 grids high (hope that makes sense, it is 2 story high). The second level is only 2 grids, a place for her to go up and sleep on. Now some might think that , that is not big enough but it is ok for her. I also have a exercise play pen that i attatch to the front of her cage everymorning and open up for her to be able to come in and out. So she is not locked in her cage all day, but she doesnt free roam either, as i have 3 dogs , 3 cats, and 3 kids that i am afraid they would hurt her.

So i guess what i am saying is that the rule of thumb thinking is that the bigger the better of course.
