Neutering - when will he stop!?

Helloo. On Tuesday I had my rabbit neutered. The main reason I got him neutered was because he was very sexually frustrated (stamped his leg), circled me, "buzzed" at me, and even mounted my arms! It was getting very annoying because he would be circling my feet while I was cleaning a guinea pig cage and he would jump into his cage while I cleaned his and start humping my arms.

Well ever since the neuter he does seem calmer. He does have to wear a lampshade on his head (sorry don't know the proper name), so he is sulking a bit. The buzzing noise he made and the circling has stopped but he is still trying to mount and it still stamping his leg when I ignore his behaviour. The vet said it would be a while till he stops but didn't say when exactly...

So my question is - has anyone had a buck neutered? When did his flirty behaviour stop? Did it ever stop completely??

thanks!

It can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a few months for his hormones to calm down. He should stop humping completely but he may still enjoy circling your legs and playing other bunny games.

Thanks.

That's good then, I don't have a problem with him circling really (although he makes me trip up sometimes!).. he also used to chase me, and I hope he still does that because I don't like picking him up (and neither does he) so it's easy to get him to follow me back to his cage when he goes in at night.

Re: Neutering - when will he stop!?

Why does he have to wear an e-collar? Was he chewing the incision?

And yes, it'll take a few weeks but he won't forget everything. My neutered boy Loki does happy love dances around his spayed girlfriend, complete with oinks, but can't seem to figure out what happens afterwards.

He might still mount for dominance, but he's much less likely to mount you. Although I do know someone with a spayed doe who mounts his arm when she's upset with him.

The vets put the collar on him before he woke up from the anaesthetic and said that it needs to be taken off in a week. They said that rabbits have a dendency to chew the stitches out.

hehe, she mounts when she's annoyed!? That's funny!!
