Orphan update I'm not used to being able to love on infants in my care so this never even occured to me until last night. I laid on my bed and propped myself up a little with some pillows. Then I laid the baby on my chest over my heart. I wrapped her (I've decided to start calling 'it' something) in a washcloth and let her rumage around a bit. She fell asleep and half an hour later or so started trying to suckle the towel. I put the nipple of the syringe in her mouth and voila! Success! I let her sleep there for a couple of hours after feeding then put her back in the incubator. This morning I repeated the process. What was taking me an hour+ to do only took about 15 min and I didn't have to force the issue!
I know hand feeding is the LAST option to consider but unfortunatly it's the only one I have left. I did contact some breeders after calling the rescue center about a foster mom but didn't get the answers I wanted to hear. Sorry to any breeders but I am distrustful of them for the most part.
Ok, thanks to the couple of messages. I'll keep trying with this little one and will let you all know if she makes it! |
