Surprised, But Not Really

Since I brought Zelda home (April 24th) she has been gaining lots of weight, which at first I attributed to the fact that she had a horrible diet in the animal shelter. But lately even my mom, who had guinea pigs as a child, has been saying how huge and overweight Zelda looks. Today I glanced over at her as I was replacing the water bottle and saw what I can only assume must have been a baby kicking. I don't know whether to be upset or just glad to finally know for sure. I mean, it couldn't be anything else, right? Except perhaps aliens?

Here is what must have happened:
While you were sleeping, the aliens came down and swooped upon Zelda. They knocked her out with their alien mind powers. Then, they took the secret 'baby' chip and placed it into her uterus. From there, it grew into a tiny alien. Now, as the alien grows larger and larger, it is beginning to kick the sides of Zelda to try and stretch out the uterus. From there, he will take over her mind, and then, the world!!

I would be very happy if I were you. This is the first alien-into-guinea implantation that this world has seen!

In all seriousness, congratulations and good luck with the babies. I'm sure that you'll be a fantastic 2nd mama to them. Have fun babyproofing (what a great chore, ha!).

Luckily three sides of my cage were already pretty high (and next to walls or furniture) and I had four extra grids for baby-proofing. It looks terrible, but hey safety first!

This morning at 8:00 I woke up to Zelda making noise (not unusual) and when I looked over and saw her in the pigloo, not next to the food bowl, I knew something was up. A few minutes later, we met the first new baby.

Fortunately, and unfortunately, it happened exactly as I thought: Little momma's fine, there were three babies, but one little boy was dead.
