Concern! PAST due?? been at least 75 days!!!

I have had guinea pigs before, but never a pregnant one. I noticed my piggie is pregnant on 2/10 (only fat in the stomach), and it is 4/25 (been 75 days since I know she's pregnant). She's still eating, drinking, and babies moving.... I saw a post before on someone with piggie with pink urine.... I dont know if mine had that... coz I thought it did a few weeks back, but end up thinking it was just newspaper ink spreading?? should I change her to sit on white paper overnight and see what's going on?? or should I be worry.... all website say is 63-70 days, I found nothing on over due! help please!!

Don't think she ever have baby before...

Are you sure she's pregnant? At full term, she should be nearly immobile from her size, and you should be able to see and feel the babies kicking and hear their teeth chattering.

Can you feel and see if her pelvic bones have separated? Run your finger down her spine until you reach right before her girl parts. You will know once you reach it because there will be two thin bones side by side. See if the bones are separated or together?

You shouldn't have noticed that she was pregnant that soon. Generally you don't know until 5 weeks before the pups are born. You shouldn't have been able to tell until the middle of march.

I agree with bp, are you sure she's preg? My female looks pregnant, but she isn't. It's just the way her body is shaped. She's short and squat, with a chubby tummy, so she just looks preg.
Maybe your female has a similar body shape?

re: Concern! PAST due?? been at least 75 days!!!

I'm 100% sure she is pregnant. I have had guinea piggies for over 6 yrs, she's not just fat, her stomach kicks.

Got her on 2/6 from a family run pet store, she was in the store for 2-3 weeks prior, in her own cage. She wasn't a new born, close to adult size, but was younger... may be like 6 months? they wasn't sure. Introduced to my Male pig 2/6 monday, pet her almost everyday. On 2/10 friday I noticed her stomach feels different (there were 2-3 balls inside) deep inside her body, felt that as I catch her when she runs. Something dont feel normal, fat don't ball up. Is true most people found out later, but either way but I was 75% sure at that time. As time goes on, she was/is pregnant. The 3 balls are moving in her stomach and got much bigger.

pelvic bones. The 2 bones are on the left and right side of her spine right? I guess they're separated? not sure, what I'm feeling the distance is about 1.5- close to 2mm apart. my boy is about 1mm apart or less... can't barely feel the boy's (just want to make sure I'm feeling the right thing.

her nipples are getting long and looks to be ready...

i could be off from the start day, but she's totally pregnant. I was just going to let nature take it's course... or should I be worry?? or what "sign" is - go to vet right now? as I'm just a normal piggie owner with no prior experience with pregnant pig. thanks so much for everyone's input!! appreciate them!

I'm just feeling oxbow timthony hay, timthony piggie food, sometimes veg (not as much as I should). I saw my male piggie peeing white milky stuff yesterday. Something wrong with the diet? or he just not drinking enough water?

    thanks for any input!

re: Concern! PAST due?? been at least 75 days!!!

Why are you breeding this pig? Or any pig, for that matter? If she's older than about eight months, pregnancy and delivery could kill her.

If she was only with a male pig on February 6, you couldn't possibly have known on February 10 that was pregnant. It takes about six weeks to know if a pig is pregnant unless you take her to the vet to have an ultrasound done. If she has a very large littler you might know a little sooner than that, but certainly not at 4 days. It's just not possible.

So, if she's due now, she could have gotten pregnant then. Or she could have gotten pregnant at any time after that. Truth be told, you don't know when she's due.

You can read www.guinealynx.info/pregnancy.html and www.guinealynx.info/labor.html. We'll help you with your pigs, but you won't get any support for breeding at either place. There are thousands of pigs in need of homes in rescues everywhere, and there's absolutely no need to deliberately breed any more.

Is she still in the same cage with the male? If so, they need to be separated.

If your boar is "peeing white milky stuff" and you aren't sure what it is, I'd bring him to a vet asap. Actually I'd bring both of them to a vet immediately. I don't think you should be trying to guess what is wrong with either of your pigs at this point. They need a good cavy-savvy vet.

Protip: This site is anti-breeding, anti-pet store and pro-adoption. Asking medical questions is accepted, and encouraged, but discussing and promoting breeding is not. Accidental pregnancies are a fact of life in the Guinea Pig world, but, we tend to frown upon indiscriminate breeding (or any breeding for that matter) when there is a glut of pigs out there to be adopted from shelters and rescues around the country.

re: Concern! PAST due?? been at least 75 days!!!

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I'm not breeding her. Okay, good, just hoping that she is due later than I think instead of late delivery. Since I don't know her age, what is the sign to look for if she's older than 8 mts? (I don't think she was, but just in case), she just drop dead? just want to be prepare for the worst just in case. If anything I hope she wasn' younger than 6 months... what would for that then?

okay, if I was off, then all I can do is wait and see what's going on next then... she is laying around a whole lot, but still able to run.

When I introduce the female to the male, he was making the angry noise and running around her, I keep thinking he dont like her... later realize the same sound but lower means totally different thing. I left them together while deciding to get him fix. but too late.

I keep reading that I should seperate the 2 piggies, since she's ready to have baby anytime. But then she won't eat when he's not around, and he goes crazy... I have him on another cage on the floor, he keep bitting the door making lots of noise and don't give up.... , cage side by side was worst, they both go crazy at the metal cage bars. Tried at least 8-9 times the past 2 weeks to seperate them, but I kept giving in.... what should I do to at least keep him happy when I finally have to keep him away from her and the babies?

how do I found a vet that knows anything about guinea pig? most vet going do cat & dogs. Being serious, but do I just call vets from yellowpage until I found one?

btw, I did adopted my first 2 piggies from Sheiter, another 1 from someone giving up her piggie. I went to a pet store instead because the closest piggie shelter around me is 2.5 hrs drive, the local humane societies don't take guinea pig around my area.

If you knowingly put a female in with a male, that's breeding. Expecting animals to practice responsible safe sex, is kinda ...numb?

To find a good vet, start here:http://www.guinealynx.info/vet.htmlCan also get in touch w/ a piggie rescue in your area and ask who they recommend.

re: Concern! PAST due?? been at least 75 days!!!

sorry... i was searching for a male pig for over 2 months, while my piggie was hating me without a friend.... I had skipped on buying 5 other female pig at that point. It was to the point that he's not eating and he's super unhappy and even start bitting me.... Introducing a male piggie to another male piggie is never recommended anyway. what should I have done? let him stop eating and die?? I had all intention to get him fix! and guinea pig is not suppose to be in heat all the time, my friend's didn't found out they get both sex until after having them for over 6 mts. okay, I was stupid, but wasn't planned!

reason for no male piggie was the pet store around me treat them real bad and bleeding them, all those piggies bite. So I had to drive 35 mins away to the next town to the other pet stores, and try to found one that's not already dominate, not biting male. And after skipping lots of good female pigs later... I give in.

Yes, I am numb! is fine, so help please!

Why didn't you give a little thought to whether she was 8 months or older and finding a good vet BEFORE intentionally housing her with a fertile male?

Please separate the pigs NOW if you haven't already... Or AT LEAST sit them down and make them watch an after school special on safe sex.

I don't care if the vet is 12 hours away, YOU created this mess, YOU put them in a dangerous situation and it is YOUR responsibility to make it right. If you can't or won't do that, you need to surrender or rehome them and never get another pet unless and until you can refrain from making really bad decisions regarding their health and care.

I am so confused. Did you have a male or female pig to begin with? Anyway, now you have a pregnant female. A male and a female together will mate, and have babies, this goes for all animals. I think you meant you thought she wasn't in heat? Since we can't possibly watch our animals 24/7 you shouldn't risk guessing who is in heat and who isn't. An un fixed animal is a possibly reproducing animal. On to your question. The longest recorded guinea pig pregnancy is 74 days. My sow is pregnant as well right now, and at the end its hard to be patient. However, your piggie needs to see a vet becaue you don't know how old she is. GPs are supposed to have their first litter before they are 8 months...and no younger than 4 months. If not, she won't be able to deliver without a c section. So the best thing you can do is get to a vet, if you can't, surrender her to someone who can. It's sad, and its good you came here for help, but in the future you could learn more and help teach others to research before they get a pet. We all make mistakes, just keep learning and do your best to fix it!
