Taking to the vet for checkup!

I found a vet and I am taking Lola to the vet to see if she is pregnant. She is Pretty big and I don't think she is overwieght. I am worried about money wise. I am not sure how much it will be to take her. I am going to tell the vet that she had been mixed with a boy once before.

Is there a reason why you need to take her in about this? We took our pigs into a vet when we first got them, one was suspected to be pregnant. The vet said it is often difficult to tell...there are no pregnancy tests really. Of course, we had no size comparison since we just got them.

When was the last time she was mixed with a boy? If you knew the approx. time, you could determine when her babies could be born. If it's not necessary, I'd skip the vet visit and let nature take its course. Unless of course you are worried that she could be gaining weight too quickly, possibly ill, but it sounds like that isn't a likely concern you have.

If it's her yearly check up then that's good, but it sounds like it may be her first visit (?) Be careful with what vet you do select though. Many will say that they see small animals, but the vets actually have very little expertise in the area. We were able to find an amazing vet about 20-30 min away, a VCA vet actually, that is quite the expert in small animals. We made the early mistake as new guinea pig owners of taking our pigs to vets that didn't do much for the check up at all: weighed her (which you can do at home), felt her stomach area, looked at her fur/ears, and then called it good. For a vet visit/check up it can cost about 60 dollars, sometimes higher depending. I still recommend taking them in for an annual check up, just do your research to find the best vet.

An x ray or ultrasound would verify pregnancy so there are ways to tell, msjbear

Yes, there are definite ways to confirm a pregnancy.

If you got her from a petstore or questionable situation, a checkup is a good idea. Otherwise I don't see the harm in just waiting and keeping an eye on her.

If she is in fact pregnant, make sure you have a good exotics vet lined up and know what to do in case of an emergency. And by that point be sure you have a good amount of money saved up for an emergency vet appointment. Complications are common, and treating them can be costly.
