UNappreciated post! : -5 (+0/-5) I got a guinea pig today,(if you saw my last post it said help me name it and i named her tipsy) and at first I thought she was a little chubby, but i didn't think she would be pregnant. then when I get home i start just wondering if there's any possobility that she might be pregnant. She has kind of like a pear shaped body (not huge) way bigger than dizzy's, her nipples are way bigger than dizzy's,(but she is 8 months and dizzy is 5 months) and I thought I felt two heads, I'm not quite sure if its just part of her body, but it feels like a heads to me. I was just wondering if you would help me in what to do. Do i have to seperate the two? Is she really pregnant? Do they need blankets to nest? will she fight more if she's pregnant? (i do see the two peck at each other and make loud noises, no blood drawn). PLEASE HELP!!! P.S. I didn't know what catagory to put it in. |

They do not have to be removed unless there is blood regardless of her being pregnant. Even when she has the babies. It looks like you neglected quarantine though? |

I worry that because you didn't quarantine, you may end up having more problems than just the pregnant pig. Females, typically, can be left with a pregnant sow throughout the pregnancy and post-birth. Even though you missed the quarantine, did you at least do a proper introduction? |

Breeder pigs are usually sick and pregnant. Now your other pig may be sick too since you neglected quarantine http://www.guinealynx.info/quarantine.html Read that link. It is vital if you insist on getting pets from irreputable sources. Also read http://www.guinealynx.info/reproduction.html Guinea Pigs Social Life You should take both pigs to a cavy vet and start saving up in case of pregnancy complications. It sounds like you are very inexperienced about cavy care and need to do a lot of reading. |

Huh. Well, you've sucessfully demonstrated why (as people tried to tell you in your earlier thread about naming the pig) it is NEVER a good idea to get a pig from a petstore or breeder. Please do a lot of reading on pregnant pigs and find a good vet. Good luck to you and your pig... |

Then I put the two pigs on my bed & let them roam around & meet there (neutral area). We got her from a rescue. She was in a home where the previous owners had severe allergies & couldn't keep her. They may have had her with another guinea pig but it's hard to know all the details. Don't know if she's pregnant or not. |

You were able to get a guinea pig from a rescue that fast? |

I'm not sure what to believe. After reading your other thread, I think you might have got if from a breeder, or got a pregnant pig because you wanted babies. Anyway, whats done is done and if you did get her from a breeder, petstore, or got a pregnant pig on purpose I hope you never do so again. Anyway, you need to take her to a cavy savvy vet. Only the vet and tell that she is pregnant or not. Then you need to watch both pigs closley for signs of illness because you didn't quarentine. |

I'm sure any reputable rescue would have kept her on a pregnancy watch and would take her back if she started showing signs of pregnancy. I'd expect it to say so in your adoption contract. You do have an adoption contract, right? (Or, it may just be time for you to start reading everything you can here and start saving your pennies for the vet.) |

I find it odd that the rescue was unsure if she was housed with a male. It's entirely possible that they didn't know, but really that information seems more important to have than the reason for the surrender. Plus, like someone else mentioned, if you did get her from a rescue, they would have addressed the possible pregnancy and more than likely would not have adopted her out. I'm assuming that you filled out the adoption paperwork a while ago and they recently approved you so that's how you were able to get her so quickly? I will say that the shelter I adopted from allowed me to adopt the same day when I got my second cat from there. But that's because I was there before. I really think that the best idea is what someone else mentioned: taking her to the vet. Also keep a close eye on both of them and if something changes in their behavior, again, take them to the vet. I really hope she's not pregnant, but if she is, make sure you do as much reading as you can during the hours you're awake, because you will have a lot to learn. My opinion, you might as well stick to this site for information since the other site you went to didn't provide proper info. |

Neutral : -3 (+1/-4) Shame on you guys! You are not her mother nor does she answer to you. Who are any of you to call her a liar? She came to this site and posted this thread looking for help and support. Instead she gets ridiculed, mocked, & is called a liar. I think the most important thing about being a mature adult is learning when to keep your mouth shut. I don't know if any of you are parents but I try very hard to teach my children "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." This advice holds true for us adults as well... If you cannot say anything nice, exit the thread and move on to the next one. I do not believe it is right to buy from a breeder. But I have no way of KNOWING whether she did or didn't because I was not there with her when she got her pig. Best I can tell none of you were either. If you cannot prove it without a shadow of a doubt, then you are just assuming. And we ALL know what happens when you assume things. Let's all take a lesson from the lesson we try to tech our children & simply learn when to walk away! I will be praying for tolerance for all of you. Last edited by Ly&Pigs; 10-28-09 at 02:56 pm. I totally agree with AmandaErlandson, this person is asking for advice!!!! Chances are, everything will go just fine with the pregnancy,it's NOT an illness,Mother Nature usually takes care of things just fine.(I had 3 kids so birthing is not that big of a deal)Sometimes another sow will actually be helpful and no,they don't make a nest since the pups are able to run around right after birth. There are some videos on youtube of cavies giving birth, just search "guinea pigs, birth" then you will know what to expect |
