Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
Hello all!! I am new to the forum and just adopted my first 2 guinea pigs. I had piggies growing up, but always had boys, no females. So I adopted these girls from a local woman who was no longer able to take care of her 7 piggies. She was adopting them out in pairs, 2 girls at a time and still has 2 boys at home. She said she had adopted them and that they were all housed happily together. She told me that the girls are about 1 1/2 so now I am worried that they may be pregnant. I am not familiar with the signs and I have only had them for 2 days now. I had dome some research and read that being older may bring on complications! If they were all housed together, are the chances of them being pregnant pretty good? I know it may seem like a silly question, but like I said, I always had boys, never girls or boys and girls together. I would really appreciate any help! Thank You! |

Yeah, there's a good chance they're pregnant. Can you ask her if they have had litters in the past? Weigh them regularly and get a competent vet lined up. At their age, they shouldn't be gaining much weight if they're not pregnant. You'll be able to feel the babies eventually too. If they are pregnant, switch to alfalfa pellets (or another form of extra calcium) and baby proof the cage. |

Thank you so much for your reply! Luckily I have a good local small animal vet, so that won't be a problem. I did email her last night and asked her if she thought there was a chance of them being pregnant. When she replies I will ask her if either one had ever had babies in the past. Are there any other signs to look out for? |

Ok! I heard back from the previous owner and she said there is NO way either one could be pregnant! She said the 2 boys are housed separately from the girls!!! YES!!!! No worries now!!! |
