Question Rescue girls (2) gaining weight????

I feed all my rescues 1/8 cup pellets 2x a day. My 4 girls are housed together, and I put out a cup of leafy greens/red lettuce/herbs (I follow the wonderful veggie chart) per piggie in the morning and again at night. They get unlimited timothy hay and a few bits of alfalfa as a treat 1x per week (not much at all, maybe call it a pinch?!). I say I house they girls together because the other 2 are not seeming to lose weight - have still not aquired a scale ( I know, I know - soon I promise - not adopting out yet from my rescue so everything is out of pocket) so don't know exact weights. I have had the 2 girls in question for only about 4 weeks. I was told they were never introduced to males, but you never really know do you? I have followed a guinealynx guide on palpating for fetus dectection but am unable to feel any actual babies - but they are definately much "fatter" than they were when I got them.

So - in addition to any tips/suggestions I get here, I obviously will keep a close eye on them, and get that scale soon as I can. I am also going to try to get a vet appointment but it can take a few days for non-emergency visits. Until then any other ideas would be wonderful!

Re: Rescue girls (2) gaining weight????

My suggestions is just an emphasis on getting a scale and weighing all your pigs. I bought my kitchen scale at a local supermarket for around 10 dollars.

As a note: all the the pigs I've rescued gained weight after being with me for a while. It was just the result of getting rid of their mites and giving them a healthy diet. It's hard to compare their weight gain to yours though since you don't have a number to put to it.

The best thing you to do is to keep making sure they have a healthy diet, good exercise and to have a number to an emergency vet that's open all hours. I'm hoping for the best for them.
