Only if they haven't had babies already. If they don't get pregnant before the age of one their pelvis fuses together making the process of giving birth near impossible. All of this is only what I've learned from these sites. So if I've misunderstood something I'm sure someone will correct me. |

http://www.guinealynx.info/reproduction_faq.html Ok confusing posts aside, here's the guinea pig lynx FAQ on pregancy. Make sure you have babyproofed the cage, so the little guinea pigs can't squeeze out. This usually involves putting a manila envelope or cardboard between the plastic and the grids. Also put a lid on the cage, as little baby piggies can and will jump over a foot and a half. (We had one who was always getting out.) Usually with a C&C I'd just put grids on top, for a temporary lid. Alfalfa hay is recommended for the mother and the little ones, as opposed to the normal timothy as they are growing and regaining lost calcium. Auntie can come back with the babies' and Mommy, as long as you're very sure she is a girl and not the dad. Male babies need to be seperated from Mommy 21 days after of birth. Otherwise you end up with an Oedipus drama, and believe me you don't want that. Here is a picture of Cherry the Oedipus Guinea pig, who my sister didn't take out of his mother's cage fast enough, and the caption. Hi my name is Cherry and I got my Mom pregnant at the age of 4 weeks. She was a white Abyssinian, and all of her next litter was very very white Abyssinian. This is a picture of me all grown up. So remove your baby male guinea pigs at 21 days of age so they don't become an Oedipus Guinea Pig like me Pictures of the babies are welcome |

Yes it is ok to put the other female in with the mom and babies. The other female will usually help look after the babies. Like said though, make sure to take males out at 3 weeks old! |

Just to clarify, alfalfa hay can be offered in addition to a regular grass hay, but not instead of. Pigs need grass hay 24/7 from the day they're born until they die. While the pups are young and the mom is nursing, they can also have alfalfa for extra protein and calcium. |

Yup Yup And we like pictures. Especially baby piggy pictures. You can post them in the photogallery under your name, and then paste the thumbnail link at the bottom of the gallery page here, like I did with Cherry the Oedipus guinea pig. |

No one and I repeat, NO one gave anyone the third degree. I was as confused trying to understand this as Paula was at first. I would have asked for a bit of clarification myself if it hadn't already been asked about. Read the second thread of the Nutrition charts thread for feeding info and read threads in this section about newborn pups. You will find a lot of good info but you need to take the time to look for it. |

Oh my! They are so gorgeous! Hm, these names are what I'd probably name them. Hikari and Akari for the little red ones. (Hikari means light in Japanese.) And the names Kaylee and Haylee would be cute too. |

UNappreciated post! : -5 (+1/-6)
Regardless of whether the pups were intentionally bred or not, the best thing you can do is provide them with lots of hay, water and veggies, perhaps boost the water with a mulltivitamin solution for Mum and just make sure that they're all gaining weight at the same pace. If there is a pup who appears to be struggling, feel free to help him/her nurse separate from the other pups with Mum (not for any substantial amount of time, but just to make sure he/she's full) They're pretty self sufficient! Good luck with the babies! Edit: I think you should call one of them Waffles |

I understand your story and hope that you get more advice about helping the babies! Do you have any pics of them? If so, POST 'EM! EDIT: Didn't realize at first there was a 2nd page to the post with pics. But they are SO cute!Something I saw... Your zip ties still had the big ends on them and were facing into the cage. Is that ok to do? We cut down all of ours (but then again our grids are on the outside of the cage), but I thought they would be bad to chew on. Last edited by rjramer06; 07-10-09 at 04:37 am. |

Yeah I clipped those a long time ago. It was a temporary fix, for like an hour. But thanks! |
