Re: Help! I think my new addition is pregnant!

I would sex them before decideing what you are keeping. You cannot house males and females together if they are not neutered or you will be having more babies. Also they are happier in pairs so try to give your niece two and keep one so they babies aren't leaving mom alone.

Your niece should look into adopting a friend for her baby too. They shouldn't be kept alone.

Re: Help! I think my new addition is pregnant!

Ofcourse. I already built the cage for the boys. I told her to give her number to the SPCA and she lives the next county over and I believe they have a small animal rescue there. I never planned on housing males with females, Deen, we don't need anymore babies. I'm going to look into getting the boys fixed so I can put them all together in one giant guinea pig cage. Until then the boys will only see the girls through 1cm bars haha. If the sexes do change the arrangements will as well, you never know, one of the little boys might turn out being a little girl. My veterinarian will be my second opinion.

It isn't easy to house two males with multiple sows. Even if you get them fixed, there is no guarantee they won't squabble over the girls. It works for some people if the sows greatly outnumber the males and they have a free range type set up.

Ahhh. Guess I'm better off keeping the 2 cages and when I get them fixed in the future pairing them up with their own girls (ones they get along with of course, shouldn't be a problem since they were born with Oreo and Brownie around them).

Re: Help! I think my new addition is pregnant!

Why don't you just keep the boys together in one cage and the girls together in the other? Then you don't have to deal with the risks of surgery.

Re: Help! I think my new addition is pregnant!

It just seems to make more sense to me that since you have the mother, keep the female babies, and give the male babies to your neice. That way there will be no chance of squabbles, or risk or surgeries.
