A question about Lap Time

Hi everyone. I'm planning on getting a cavy in a few months (yay!!) and I picture myself watching TV while holding and cuddling her. During lap time, does the guinea pig really sit still enough to do this? Do they enjoy sitting on your lap and watching TV with you? Thanks for reading

Re: A question about Lap Time

My two each had their own lap time. first was nail clipping, which went great...thanks to all the great tips, then snuggly time. Gizmo gave me a little nip after about 15 min to tell me he had enough but brownie would have stayed for hours if i let him.

Re: A question about Lap Time

Lap time is great. I lay on my bed with the piggy on my chest watching TV. I also sit cross legged on the computer chair and they lay in my lap. Try to get two pigs of the same sex, though. They will be much happier.

Re: A question about Lap Time

If the don't need a pee, then they will sit still. I lie on the sofa with them on my chest, or like slap I cross my legs and put them on my lap. However, my pigs don't always sit there, they tend to climb up onto my chest or my shoulder and rest there.

Re: A question about Lap Time

Just don't hold them too long, their blatters aren't that big! I know from experience . . .
Sometimes if a piggy doesn't want to sit still, a bit of hay or parsley can always persuade her.
My pigs hate to be held together though. They get so angry and will try to chase each other away!

Re: A question about Lap Time

I have some who will sit calm & still.. especially when I have treats at hand! But some of my young males can be wrigglers. Weeing is the main problem I have. About 5 mins into the lap time they will wet on me.. so a towel with newspaper at the bottom might be needed!

Re: A question about Lap Time

I have tried 2 piggies together for lap time but Sily is VERY dominate and will "rumble" at Cleo and make a pain in the butt of herself. So now i do 15-30 minute lap times seperate. Silky loves to sit and watch tv right on my lap or in my arm. Cleo on the other hand is a "spaz" she never sits still and is always looking for a place to hide. What i did was made her a cuddle pouch and now she loves lap time, cuz she feels she's hiden but will accept p her lovies with little to no resitance. She will also eat her veggies during lap time.

Each Piggy is different, you have to grow to learn your piggies and their likes, dislikes and fears (unless you have a VERY brave little one)

That's how I named my piggie Spaz. Whenever we would go to pick her up she would spaz out and run around my lap. She couldn't sit still for like a month until she got used to everything.

Re: A question about Lap Time

My two girls enjoy lap time but separately. They start vocalizing their enjoyment as I pet them and one of my piggies spreads out her body as I stroke her. They start getting fidgety after about 20 minutes, usually to go pee.

Re: A question about Lap Time

That's a good idea about a pouch for wiggly pigs. If I want to hold them for a long time I use a Puppy Pad (absorbent thingy with plastic bottom; like a flat diaper) so they can go potty if they need to. With Fozzie it really helps to have some cardboard or something for her to chew on because otherwise she'll chew my clothes the whole time! Zorro is the cutest, though, because he climbs up and puts his head on my shoulder just like a little baby.

Re: A question about Lap Time

I love how they each have their own personality for everything!! My other two: Charlie is a little mush ball and likes to give finger kisses nonstop, but has no bladder control, and Amber flattens herself out into a pancake, hence her nickname "Pancake". Love my piggies so much!!!!!!!!!!
