Hello. I was wondering if someone could explain to me floor time? Is this only for guinea pigs who have small homes? Some of the floor time spaces photo's I have seen are smaller than their night time homes so I'm not sure why. I get mine out when ever I feel like it but it's usually only for a cuddle. I dont let them run all over my house, just over me and the general area I am in. No cages though. |

Floortime is a time where you put your cavies/cavy in a pen or in a room and put water food and some cuddle-e-cups or pigloos and you let them run around. Here is a nice set-up for floor time. http://www.cavycages.com/photos/show...cat=515&page=1 Their are many more pictures if you need some more ideas. |

Thanks. I knew what it was but isn't it basically giving them 2 seperate homes? Alot of the pics I've seen have just as much stuff in them as the permament house so it's confusing as to why they need 2? I havn't done that, is that bad? I only have 1 big cage for them. |

1 big cage is fine. I think people just give their piggies for exsesize and to explore new soroundings. I hope it helped. Queenie |

Ok that's what I thought, they are inquisitive little creatures! I just didn't have a 2nd area that was secured so I wondered. I still let them out though. |

Floor time: Even if you have a big cage, and especially if you don't, it is very important to the health and happiness of your guinea pig to get daily exercise. Floor time is more than lap time. It is providing a safe environment large enough for your guinea pig in which to run around and explore. Safe means protecting areas that your guinea may get into that he can't get out of, like behind refrigerators, inside chairs or sofas, behind immovable shelving, in walls, etc. It also means making sure wires are inaccessible, not just unplugged. Guinea pigs have been known to eat telephone cords and cause themselves major internal damage. Electrocution and fires from biting plugged in wires have also been known to happen. Floor time gives them a chance to get exercise and it provides a change and stimulation for them. I think it would be boring for them if they had to stay in a cage day in day out |

Thanks for that, I do let them out but I just dont have a 2nd caged area. They usually stay where I am around the sofa or go into my kitchen. Gee that sounds good, if I'm not on the couch I'm in the kitchen BooHoo....There is cords at my tv's etc that they could get to if I wasnt watching but I am. I only get them out when my kidlets goto bed so my attention is all theirs. They arne't allways on my lap..probally 5 minutes or so of the hour I guess. Their pretty happy, I have finally started to see them popcorning!! |

During floor time are you supposed to play with the piggies yourself or let them run around together/ by themselves? |
