When I set my piggers on the floor, they go beserk and love to run around. The trouble is, I can't let them run around because there are too many places they could get stuck, wires they could chew etc. So every day I set up a large enclosure for them (about a third of the living room). But they will literally not budge an inch for over an hour. Even when I lay kale just outside the box to tempt them out. They only seem to be willing to move when there is no boundary at all, but of course I can't just let them run around my house. How can I encourage them to use their safe floor time? |

They probably would like lots of places to hide. Tunnels are always a hit with my piggies and huge pile of hay. |

I'll try and put lots of hay in next time. They do have lots of hidey places though, I put out their pigloos and a few boxes. |

My pets will do this sometimes too. I usually give them some time and they will eventually start running around. They could also simply be getting used the new area, or gates because that is what my boys did when I set up a gate. |

I built my 5 boys and outdoor floor time space / out door pen, for them to enjoy the outdoors on the weekends when I'm home all day and every day after work when weather permits for the summer. I[ve got hideys, hay tunnels...you name it. The first couple times I put them out, they hid in their hideys, now, they get excited when I put them in my wagon to transport them to the pen. It's made of tall chicken wire and posts. My husband helped me. I think they just need to get use to being in a different environment. It's all a matter of routine I think. |
