Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I have two Guinea Pigs, one named Sandy and one named Carly. I bought Carly on Saturday and am still introducing them. So I need ideas on how much time each should have with play time and lap time? So that way Carly or Sandy do not get jelous |

When you first buy a new pig, you need to quarantine them in a different room from your current piggy(s) to make sure they don't have anything that the other can catch. If you don't you newbie could have something and infect the other and you could end up with a double death on your hands. The quarantine period should be about 2-3 weeks. Then you may start to introduce them. I know there are some people who don't listen to that rule, but I believe it's an important one especially when you buy from a petstore. In the end, it's really your piggies health that should be the number one issue and how really you take it into consideration. |

Jealousy is a human emotion, comming from greed. He has a shiney rock, I want it, that is jealousy. Guinea pigs don't think like we do, they want to survive, unlike most humans who just want what our neighbor has. Both pigs need to be checked for gender, NO MATTER what the petstore says. 2 hours is minimum floor time for pigs in small cages, I really hope you aren't planning on putting both in the small cage shown in your avatar. If you are "introducing" two boars, heedless of quarantine, it should be approached with caution because they will dispute dominance, it might take 2 seconds, more likely it will take longer, perhaps years. With sows, not so long. Sows are more social, but some still don't take kindly to newcomers. Wait, why am I typing all this when you could find it at Guinea Pigs Social Life? I dunno. Perhaps because animals are worth it. Rant, rave, do what you will. |
