bored piggy?

Whenever I take my piggie out for floor time she just hides. I always take some her toys/hidey out for her so that she has familiar things in her she feels more comftorable but she doesn't explore or anything. It's wierd too because whenever my mother comes over to visit and I have her out she runs all over the place.

Also, the entire time she is out she makes this quiet squeaking noise and I have no idea what it means. I think it means she's scared but I really have no clue.

Re: bored piggy?

Is she a single pig? They often do much better in pairs. If you check out your local shelter I'm sure you can find a pig you love. I just recently got mine friends they they are *so* much happier. As for floor time, things to crawl through, such as tubes and tunnels often give them things to do. With a buddy, though, I'm positive she'll perk up.

Re: bored piggy?

I agree with dra&pigs. She needs a friend if she is alone. Keep offering floor time on a daily basis and she should get more comfortable with it. Make the experience positive by offering healthy treats and hay to munch on.

Good Luck!

Re: bored piggy?

I'm working on getting a second pig but my boyfriend and mother think it is unnecessary to get her a friend. (they don't think they have the capacity to feel lonely or whatever) Not to mention he's not too fond of the one I have now. He thinks she's cute and all but has no real interest in her becasue she isn't affectionate like a dog or cat. (my piggie is a chomper, not a nibbler especailly if you forget to take her out of her cage with a blanket to protect you fingers)

Not only that but he doesn't want me to have a proper sized cage for my Bella. He says a 2x3 is too big for the apartment and that if it is that big she would have to go into the bedroom (which we aren't in except to sleep) so for now I have her in a 2x2 c&c cage. (Not the best I know but wayyy better than a store cage. Its almost twice the size of the store cage I had.)
