Whenever we take Tyler out of his cage for floor time, he sits very still in the middle of the area for about 5 minutes, then runs over and climbs back into his cage. He just doesn't seem to want to have floor time. He loves lap and cuddle time and can sit for what seems like hours in a lap and be petted. We've put out tubes to run in, boxes to hide in, and even a piggloo to hide in during floor time, but he still just sits there. I've tried giving him his veggies out of the cage and he won't eat them. Soooo, with the exception of getting him a piggy friend to play with (which I know is what I should do), how can I get him to actually do something during floor time?

Definitely be persistant and keep up what you are doing. Try not to mix up the playthings between floortime sessions for now because your piggie will get even more overwhelmed than he already is. Try a smaller area and more things to hide in. You are doing a great job! Keep up the good work!

Re: How to enjoy floor time? If he doesn't like running in the open, what you could do is cut holes in cardboard boxes and make a maze for him to explore. It would probably make him feel safer, along with some treats in a few boxes for him to find.

Re: How to enjoy floor time? that sounds like a great idea I know that I have issues with my girls when it comes to floor time as well...but I really would like to try some ideas for making it more enjoyable for them so they can get some good exercise

Re: How to enjoy floor time? Well, I have no idea why, but suddenly Tyler loves floortime. He plays with all of the neato tubes we have and he loves our cats. We watch very closely when cat and piggy are together. So far, they get along great. He chases the cats and plays with their tails. Its cute. But, I would never, never let them out together without being within arms reach of them, just in case. Its also cute when he's in his cage, he sits and watches the cats play and runs back and forth trying to play with them. But this is way too rough play for him.

Re: How to enjoy floor time? I'm glad Tyler is liking his floortime now. My boys REALLY love their empty soda/pop boxes.

Re: How to enjoy floor time? Give him things to do! Hide Food and prehaps close his cage for a while, I used to put music on because fudge liked it! when one of mine died fudge was on his own so I needed to play with him more often, otherwise hes got bored, and someone said to me ages ago that when an animal is bored it's suffering. I regrett not getting him another friend.
