Peeing EVERYWHERE I need a solution.... Only one of my pigs pees a lot during floortime. I have one of those little pens but thats too small for floortime. I wont let them roam around my room either because she would ruin my carpet. Any help on ideas of how to solve this problem? Thanks.

Re: Peeing EVERYWHERE You could always litter train them. Most pigs urinate while they eat, so if you put a litter tray near their hay rack, they will sit in the tray, eat the hay, and urinate there. They will soon learn that's where they should pee. However, this doesn't stop them from pooing wherever they fancy, and, some pigs may never learn to use a litter tray. Plus, this can take time. However, if you do litter train them, all you'd have to do is set up a litter tray in their floor time space and they will urinate there. If you don't want to litter train, or your pigs don't learn (mine never did), you could just use lots of layers during floor time. You can't stop the pig from urinating, but by using layers of newspaper, puppy pads, towels, fleece, etc, you can minimize mess and clean up time. This would especially help if you had them on carpet, as urine is fairly easy to clean up on hard surfaces, if you catch it quickly. Good luck!

Re: Peeing EVERYWHERE The easiest thing to do is to pick up an extra pack of grids. You can connect them all with zipties, except don't connect the last two ends together. This way the pen is quick to set up, and to take it down you just simply fold the pieces into a stack. Kind of like a square slinky. You can use newspapers, but the easiest thing to do is just buy a queen or king size mattress pad. This way you just pick it up, shake it off, fold it up and put it away until next time. Wash it to remove urine every 3 or 4 uses. There isn't much you can do with a pig that likes to pee everywhere during floor time. Since floor time is more for play than for eating, it would be difficult to get them to use one specific place when out playing.

Re: Peeing EVERYWHERE I too use extra grids to section off a place on my kitchen floor. I lay down a plastic shower curtain with an old quilt on top. Shake the quilt out after use, store in garage and wash after every couple of uses.

Re: Peeing EVERYWHERE I use the puppy playpen for the pigs floor time. I did order mine new but since then I have kicked myself in the butt because I have seen several at yard sales. I paid $80 new and it is worth every sent, it makes a yard seven feet by four feet and accordians together with a carry strap for storage. It is made of plastic and the holes are small diamond shape, small enough that even babies couldn't escape. I have a pig that pees when she gets nervous. I found that the more she got used to the environment and as long as there were no sudden changes, she did better.

Re: Peeing EVERYWHERE I also use extra grids for floortime, newspaper (lots of it) under fleece usually works best for me, since I have a lot of newspapers on hand. Most of the time though, Gary and Tofu just sit in a pile of food or hay and don't bother to explore...haha but what can you do?
