Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I think he may have mites, so when you try to pet him he gets annoyed because you are irritating the mites. Did you buy him from a pet store? Also, maybe you're petting him the wrong way? Sounds silly, but some pigs like being petted from tail to head. Go to a vet a.s.a.p and get him checked out! |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 If you just got him he may just be skittish. If you only have one, consider getting another. That will definitely make him happier! =) If you suspect it's mites or fleas or anything, get him in asap, otherwise I think he may just need time to open up. Some pigs are just skittish! I'd really consider adopting a new friend if I was you though. Good luck! =) |

However, Ivermectin can be purchased over the Internet and treatment is very easy. Use AT LEAST 3 doses 7-10 days apart for each dose. Read this: http://guinealynx.info/ivermectin.html Good luck in treating your piggie. He'll love you for it. |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 My Maslowski used to be the same way. Though I figured out that he doesn't like me petting his back, but his head and sides he likes. He also runs away from me, but that is because he is a little skittish about being picked up. On floor time, he doesn't want to be picked up because he knows he's being put in the cage and in the cage, he doesn't mind being picked up most of the time. But mites could be an issue, so it's better to be safe and check with a vet just in case. |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Give it a treat. It might be scared. It's possible the piggy just doesn't feel comfortable or wants to run amok. Give it a treat whenever you handle it and see if it comes around. My favorite piggy was said to be a biter; had always bitten everyone and everything. I liked it the moment I saw it, and I think it liked me. It has never bitten since I got her. Maybe something was bugging it before? She is the sweetest here at our place. My favorite piggy. Try trading the piggy with someone else. I know some folks say you have to commit yourself to a pet, but that is nonsense. If you don't like it or it doesn't like you, it is very possible that it may have a better life with someone else. On a side note, we had a rabbit that was the sweetest thing and would always let the wife pet her. But when the wife had her period, the rabbit was not so nice and would nip. |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Make sure he sees you coming before you pet him and don't approach him coming down from above but forward and to the side a bit where he can see your hand coming. There instinct is to run, especially if you are approaching them from above. A vet check would be recommended if he has not had one yet. Quote:
