Question Help!? Newspaper ok?!?!

Everytime when I have floortime with my GP I of course put down newspaper. But she starts chewing and eating it. Is it ok for her to eat it? I dont know how to find out what kind of ink is on it but she only eats a little. I dont know how to keep her from chewing on EVERYTHING! She chews on her cage and the Floor base. but espically newspaper. Please Help! Thanks

Yeah...

It's okay as long as it has a soy-based ink - so I highly reccomend ringing up the newspaper publishers and asking them, it'll only take a minute of your time.
Try putting in some dried sticks from fruit trees for her to chew on.

Re: Help!? Newspaper ok?!?!

I don't know anything about newspapers in the US, but in the Netherlands newspaper ink is toxic, so I never use newspapers as a base.
Maybe you can use something else as a base? Like linoleum kind of stuff?
I used to take big plastic placemats and put towels on top.
Does your pig also chew on the newspapers when you put towels on top? Maybe when she doesn't see the newspapers, she won't chew on them.

Old thread alert!

Because this might now be read by newcomers, I'll clarfiy:

Newspaper generally isn't a good base anyway because the guinea pigs will be walking on their own pee. Putting something like fleece or approved shavings on top will generally stop both of these problems. I don't know about the ink toxicity, but if you lay fleece on top you don't have to know about it, anyway.
