Cool Pregnant guinea???

I bought two guinea pigs from the pet store. I was told that they were both males. We guess what? Yep...one's a male and the other is a female (at least I think so. The anatomy does not match. She has a "y" shape and he surely has a penis). Well, the one that I think is a female was in the same cage as the male I purchaced. She is the "messy hair" type and considerable larger than the male (he's a smooth haired one). Her sides bulge and I believe I felt something move when I was holding her. I did call a vet and make an appointment, but I wanted to know sooner. I dont mind if she is, I just want to be prepared. Does anyone know if there is a way to tell? Do they act different?

If you think she is pregnant you should seperate them imediatly. The female could give birth soon if she is pregnant.Just as a precaution.Good luck with your piggys!!

Here's some good information on pregnancy http://www.guinealynx.info/breeding.html.

Make sure you complain to the pet shop, and to any relevant authorites regulating pet shops licenses. It's terrible (although sadly not uncommon) for pet shops to sell breeding pairs as same sex pairs. If the person in charge of selling them genuinely can't tell the difference, they shouldn't be in charge of sexing them, and only people complaining wil change that.

Good luck at the vets and with her pregnancy (I'm assuming you've already separated them from what you said). If you have any medical questions about her pregnancy, post them at the Guinea Lynx forums. http://www.guinealynx.info/forums/
