Unhappy Why hide?

Okay so heres the thing, I always let my guinea pigs get out of their cage for floor time but they seem to always hide and bite their cage like they want to go back in...why? I mean I want to see them have fun and run around enjoying it. .

Buddy and Noodle

p.s: I got them about 2-3 weeks ago

Re: Why hide?

My piggy does that too. When I let him out he hides but if I leave him out for a long time, after about 20 minutes he will come out and explore.

Re: Why hide?

Mine are like that too. My theory is that they love the C&C soo much they just want back in! But seriously I think it's because they've established it as their home and they feel nervous being out of it.

Re: Why hide?

With Aiden it took him about 6 weeks before he started "exploring" outside the cage. I would do lap time and pet him and leave him be for a little bit. As soon as he started chewing I would put him back, so he knew he was secure and had the option of going back to his "home". Now he enjoys staying out for a good 30-45 minutes plus lap time of about 20 minutes before he starts chewing. I would just slowly let them get adjusted, don't force them into too much right away.

Re: Why hide?

When i first got my guinea pig he was really fussy and did the same. Now he will sit on my lap without squeaking or anything, ( just sitting there) for about 1 Hour! We always get him out everyday.

Re: Why hide?

My pig use to run around alot when she was little. Now she wont as much but i find that if i sit on the ground with her she likes to run circles around me. Also i have a little play pen area where i like to make it bigger and bigger that helps her to adjust.
