biting/nipping

Hi my little "furry boy" Tomacko, is very tentative abt leaving his cage, once out, he really has a great time, both lap time and play time on the floor.

When it is time for him to return to his cage, he nips me enroute to the cage. I have tried various ways of holding him, he will even nip my fore arm. Is he nipping because he doesn't want to go back to his cage? He does not mind being transported on a pillow or in a box.

As soon as he sees his cage He is eager to get back in & once home he is quite content.

any suggestions?

Guinea pigs, well most of them...loves floortime...whenever my gp sees me leaning it to pick him up. he just runs away so it takes a good amount of time to get him into my hands and into the cage...he bit me once because I was trying to get a painful not out and he was mad about that but I dont think that you can improve your prob. b/c he must just love floortime!!

Some piggers will nip at you while you're carrying them if they don't feel they're being held securely. So it could be that - however firmly you know you have them, to them being held up high in the air and being jiggled around as you walk must be at the least a pretty strange sensation! Maybe transporting him in the box is best for him - if he seems happy that way.

Have a look at this page for more information on why he may be nipping http://www.cavyspirit.com/biting.htm.
