I dont mean to sound rude, but umm, that was really offensive. mncavylover knows her stuff, and i support anything she says 100%. Besides, its a known fact that pigs are ten times better in pairs. For a couple of months, my parents said i could possibly get one guinea pig, and i refused because i knew it would be selfish on my part and unfair for the pig to be alone and friendless.
I cant stop you from doing what you want, but i can nudge you in the right direction.
if i offended anyone, I'm sorry, but i thought the comment above was hasty and unnecessary, and needs to be rethought.

ouch. hey mncavylover, i just wanted to appologise for freaking out. i wasnt having a good day yesterday! we just discovoured that my grandpa was in the hospital gonna have surgury and we dont think hell live through it. then my bro rented this movie and my mom was like you cant watch it. so i went on our laptop and it got screwed up so i had to come onto this ssssllllooooowww computer!!! >x<---my atempt at a sour face haha. his eyes are kidna low dont u think. anyways i apologise 100% haha. but i still think that one gp is okay. cuse two of my best friends each had one and they were all fine....so im still getting one gp but maybe eventually i will get another one. cuse maybe my folks will notice that i can handdle two. sigh. anyways just thought i better say that cuse one day i might have this really importiant question that only u will know the answer too... hope ur not mad nemore.

Well, cheers for apologising but I want to say just because other animals get on fine alone that doesn't mean a guinea pigs is the same. Dogs and guinea pigs are two completely different animals. Gp's are used to living in large herds in the wild, so thats why they are better kept in pairs or more. When you go to school or work, won't the guinea pig be lonely. He'll have nothing to do for at least 8 hours. Yes, you can give him lots of love and attention for a couple of hours a day, but what about the rest? Just because your friends have had ONE, does that mean you have to as well? Maybe they didn't know about the whole herd thing. Like other people have said before, its your choice in the end, but we are only trying to help

oh, I don't mean to be nosy or anything but why won't your parents let you get two? Is it financial costs or the responsibility. Yes, do look after your guinea pig very well and then maybe your parents will see and they may even change their minds...

few things. im gone to school for 7 hrs a day 5 days a week. but my mom is home all day on every 2nd friday. and my brother is gone to school for only 3 1/2hrs every second day and 7hrs the others...does that make sense. so it goes sorta like this sunday everyones home. mon i get home at 4. tues my brothers home till 1230 and then leaves and i get home at 4.wed nobody. thurs my brothers home till 1230 and then leaves and i get home at 4. fri my moms home.sat were all home. so hes not gonna be alone all that much really. the average week would be about (hourse alone per week)/(hrs of daylight per week.) 21/84... so ya.(or outa the wole hours of the week 21/168 ) the reasons i cant get two is space and responsibility.

I think that you should get one (well sort of), but tell your parents that you should really get two. And just introduce the idea to them. Tell them they are better off in pairs. Keep in mind that if you get 1 you had better spoil it rotten. I personally dont think that it is ok to have 1 but if you take the best of care of it. I don't see the problem with getting two because its not like your parents will really look at them that much. Again keep in mind ask yourself these questions before you get one pig

1) Do I have the time to give my one piggy extra attention and time?

2) Do I have the money to spend on extra toys and accessories to keep my one piggy's mind stimulated so my piggy isn't bored or lonely?

3) Am I totally sure that I can't get two piggies?

4)Do I honestly believe that my one piggy will be happy alone?

5) Is it possible to get another piggy later on?

6) Am I sure I can't just wait a while so I can convince my parents to let me have two?

And no I highly doubt your pigg will die without a friend because there are many people on this forum who have only had one pigg for years.
No one on this forum can tell you what to do. You know how we feel. You have to make the desicion for your self.

thanks. i highly doubt i can convince my parents to get me two. but if my one pigger lives long enough ill move out and get another one then. like in three or four yrs when i go to university or what ever. i will honestly give my pig tons of attention! the most i can. and i thought of this brilliant idea!!!!! my friend has one gp. and i could let them visit eachother!!! they have the coolest stuff for her! they have a maze that she knows off by heart and they have this gimungo hutch at their cabin and a nice one at home. then my pigger wont be lonely if she gets to visit the other pigger ( named G.P.)what do u guys think of that? or will it just taunt my pigger and make it even more lonely?

well, when introducing any two pigs, there has to be a qurantine period, so i dont know if playdates would work. someone else know better? i was just guessing...

GuineaPiggies, I don't mean to sound rude at all, and thanks for apologising, but you're still in the same situation all the way through these posts. I know we can't force you to do anything, but I know I would do anything for my pigs, including not getting them if I could only have one. As for your analysis of the hours of the week, that doesn't really hold true. How many of those hours are you sleeping, on the phone, eating, doing homework, on the computer, watching tv? You will probably only have a couple hours every school night at home. I'm 15, just to let you know, and I know how busy life is. Can you perhaps suggest to your friends that they should have two pigs? Oh, and the reason pigs need a buddy can be read here: www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm. I don't really have time to explain, sorry! Dogs are a completely different situation. They are free-range, and can access you at any time. They are social with *you*, because you nearly fit their idea of social interaction. It's not easy to communicate with cavies because of size and language difference. Think of it as this: You're with aliens. Nobody even bothers to see to your needs except for a teeny fraction of your life. You can't communicate with anyone. You're just stuck. I really hope you think this through thoroughly.

heehee yup i kno. but on the 21/84 thing that (84hr per week) like has sleeping. like u know 12 but i dont sleep that long. for homework we only have to do 1hr or so that makes it umm 21/78. as for the phone im honestly not a phoney person Ü i usually just tell people ill talk to em when i see em. but i get ur drift i cant be there the whole time.maybe ill get a dwarf bunny. haha nah!
