Re: good ideas to make a cage Well, indoor cages are the best to make. You can use grids like these: ![]() and then coroplast for the base and side http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=...ages/cage6.jpg Go to www.cavycages.com for more info

Re: good ideas to make a cage I don't want to be mean but if you can't have an indoor pig, maybe you might want to think about an animal that would do ok outside.

Re: good ideas to make a cage Yes I agree with Dagwell, if you can't keep your cavies inside then I would suggest not to get them. Thanks PooH.

Re: good ideas to make a cage Many people in my area have rabbits outside in large enclosure that are way better than anything that could ever be built in a house. I have yet to see any problems with having them outside. Personally, they seem very happy, as they are in an enclosure that comes closest to their natural habitat. We may also have different rabbits up here in Canada then those in the southern US. I know that I probably wouldn't keep a dwarf rabbit outside, because it doesn't seem like they are made for the cold (I could be wrong about this). Our rabbits in the wild up here are very use to cold temperatures, so I really think that it all depends on what breed you have. A breed that originated in warm temperature would not like a canadian winter, but breeds that originated here in the north would be able to adapt to it quite well. I could be completely wrong about this, but it just seems to me to be the difference.

Re: good ideas to make a cage my pigs are housed outside in a hutch and i have never had any problems with them....they have a happy life and still get as much attention as they would inside! Its very rare here in australia to keep them inside and because no-ones home all day everyday they would have to be shut up inside when its really hot!

Re: good ideas to make a cage My pigs also live outdoors. It seems perfectly healthy as long as you have a very secure cage. And keep it in a fairly sheltered area away from direct sun unless it is early morning or late afternoon sun which shouldn't be too hot. And keep it out of cold draughts. My pigs all seem quite content and know nothing else. As agpiggy said, this is quite common in Australia.

Re: good ideas to make a cage I went to a home improvement store and bought a precut 2'x4' board for the bottom and an 8" high 2'x4' boards for the sides and ends. I covered the bottom with 12 linoleum squares so it was easy to wipe down. $40.00 and around 30 minutes to make and my 3 boys love their new pig pen. Good luck.

Re: good ideas to make a cage Cavies (and rabbits) here in Australia are predominantly outdoor pets. I would say at least 80% would be kept in places other than indoors. Cavies (and rabbits) can live happily in cages outdoors, it is not a necessity that they stay indoors. Yes, they get probably more interaction, but they are not being "mis treated" or cared for any worse by living outdoors. Matt
