TIcks/May Flies/Mosquitoes

I've had my 2 guinea pigs since October and still feel totally new at this. My kids and I can't wait to put our girls outside for free time. They saw a guinea pig garden on here and are so excited about making one for Sweet Pea and Mama. I'm concerned about biting insects, though. We live in NH and from now till the end of May we have ticks and May flies. Then it's mosquitoes. What do you do about these things. My kids said too bad they don't make revolution for guinea pigs. We have a cat, too. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for your help and we think this website is wonderful.
