How to know if my grass is safe

The weather is warming up and I would like to put my guinea pigs outside for their floor time once in a while. My concern is that we have had the grass treated for pests in the past. We have a pest control company come out every other month to spray. Although, they have not sprayed the backyard since summer. They were just here and I had them only spray just along the house and the back wall. Neither of which touches the grass. What I am wondering is once you spray how long does it take for the grass to be safe again. If I should stop letting them spray in the back yard all together what is a safe amount of time? We have a nice spot on the grass that would be partially shaded by a tree that I think they would love (I have a wire coral that I would use and plan to be out with them at all times). The grass has not yet come back so it won't be for a few months yet.

Or am I better safe that sorry and just not do it? Would a blanket be ok?

Re: How to know if my grass is safe

I would contact your pest company and find out what kind of products they use. Then research them specifically by name. If they are for animal pests/insects, they probably linger for quite a while. Some chemicals for plant pests have a shorter lifespan. It really does depend on the chemical.

I don't know how far the chemicals travel due to rain and regular watering, and plant roots.

Re: How to know if my grass is safe

I think that using a blanket for them to be on while outside should be okay until you find out if your grass is safe or not. It will still be a change of scenery even if they can't nibble on the grass.

But like Steve said, I would definitely call the spraying company because they would know best!
