We love them but they are such Stupigs

Reading this forum makes me want to share a funny story about our piggies in the outdoors. We found a use for the store bought cage; we unclipped its bottom and put the top part directly on the grass. We allow our two pigs to graze under its protection for limited time, while keeping an eye out for predators. The cage and the cardboard house inside gives them some protection. Good thing. I came out of the house to check on them only to find that Scooter, the neighbors cat, had come over to visit. One of our two piggies had run over to meet him! The strange thing was that the pig that ran to the cat was our "scaredy pig" that always runs away from us. (We adopted her when she was 1 years old and rather neglected.) Our other "explorer pig" had the good sense to run into the carboard house. This is about the time we decided to call them our "stupigs". Scooter is the reason we keep a watch on the piggies when they are outside. Scooter even has the audacity to come up close to the cage while I am sitting next to it on the grass! We always put the cage top on the grass near the house where we can see it from our windows. They really love their time on the grass.

That is a cute story, though a little scary. I really would highly suggest that someone sits out there at all times. You never know what could happen before you can run out there to stop it.

We used to use the top of our pet-store cage in the same way until we built a bigger run. We were always out there with them but I used to worry about one of the children having a crisis and not knowing whether to tend to child or guinea pigs first, so we used metal pegs (tent pegs would probably do) to fix the cage to the ground.

My pigs and cat are BEST friends! they eat grass together and if the gpigs get tierd of the cat they will bite and chase her and that will make the cat run away.
