Piggie garden open for action!

Just posted some pics of our new Piggie Garden. Have a look and let me know what you think!

They don't live in this enclosure, just visit on pleasant days. There's a lot to snack on (celery, parsley, dill, violas, beets, radishes, carrots, and more, as well, as some nice grassy areas for lounging, and flower pots for hiding in.. It's held up with plastic garden fences, but lined with zip-tied cube panels. Trying to find a reasonable cover for the thing... maybe a pipe pounded down the center, so that a large umbrella will fit into it?

Funny thing is, with that big variety of greens, they still mostly eat the grass!

Re: Piggie garden open for action!

That looks great, I may have to make something like that.

Celery should be cut in small peices because of the leaves and parsley shouldn't be fed to often. I am not sure if piggies can have violas, and radishes should be fed at most once a month (or are you speaking of radish greens).

Re: Piggie garden open for action!

Very sweet garden! I'm glad you took photos - cos I'm not sure how long it'll last! 'Heartsease' violas are edible to both human and pig alike. Funny with all those tempting titbits, they still go for the grass!

An umbrella would be good for shade if it's sunny - but would do nothing to prevent predators (especially cats). I know they only visit - I hope they are always accompanied! Any pictures of the garden with the pigs themselves? I'd love to see them!

Re: Piggie garden open for action!

They're only getting radish greens, and the celery is a special kind that mostly grows leaves. Because of rain alternating with searing temperatures, they haven't had much chance to visit the garden, and it's already getting beyond them. I guess we'll have to start using it as a cutting garden, or we'll lose them in there. Oh, and no worries about predators. They're always accompanied out there. I only worry about birds of prey, because we might not notice them overhead until its too late. Oh, and I did post some pics of the piggies, but they got deleted. I'll try to post some to my flickr account this weekend, and give a link here. Thanks!

Re: Piggie garden open for action!

Oh - I am so jealous. What a fantastic garden! Everything I've grown this summer has shriveled up with all the heat and no rain here. Anyway, the garden is fabulous and the pictures of your piggies are beautiful! I bet they just love it in there.
